"Why?" I asked. Why?

Ryan sat up. "'Cause stuff," he answered. He looked at me. "I'm hungry. Can we eat?"

"Oh sure. Halika, let's go downstairs," I said.

He sleepily followed me downstairs. "Sorry for barging in your space. I was just so sleepy."

"It's okay," I said.

I wanted to ask more about him and Macy but I didn't think it was appropriate to pry at that moment. Especially he had not yet eaten.

"Oh shoot!" he suddenly said. "Nakakahiya! Bad breath ba 'ko? Shet, I don't have a toothbrush here. Sorry." He covered his mouth.

"No, you're not. Stop worrying about that. Eat," I said pushing his plate to him. "Thanks for bringing your Mom's spaghetti. It's so yum."

"That's nothing. Sorry for sleeping in your bed."

"Ryan, it's fine."

He smiled.

"But of course, just don't make a habit out of it. Dad'll murder you," I forecast.

He laughed. "As long as you won't murder me." He started to get food onto his plate. "Wanna go sa bahay? Let's ruin the oldies' poker?" he asked.

"'Yoko nga. Dad will just find ways to humiliate me, I'm sure."

"Buti pa Dad mo, very involved sa buhay nyo 'no?"

"Why ba Daddy mo?"

"He's busy eh," he snorted.

"'Cause it's work you know. Sometimes-"

"Not work," he interrupted.

"Not work?" I asked confused.

"Long story," he said.

I watched him ate a couple of spoonfuls.

Mom walked in the kitchen. "Gising ka na pala Ryan. 'Musta naman ang tulog mo?"

"Sorry Tita ah. Maingay din kasi sa bahay. Sa condo naman, sira yung air-con ko."

"Okay lang. Eh ba't ka ba napuyat?" Mom asked.

Napatingin si Ryan sa'kin. "I was on the phone all night po to Macy," he said.

"Ay ang sweet naman. Sabagay, bakasyon naman," Mom said.

"Mom," I pressed. I shook my head to prevent her from saying any more.

She got my drift. "Ay sorry. Away ba?" asked Mommy. "Nag-away ba kayo?"

"We broke up po Tita," Ryan shared.

"Oh," Mom nodded. She winced. "Kaya ba kayo tahimik ngayon?"

We didn't answer. We just stayed silent.

"Ah okay sige, alis na 'ko," Mom said and left.

"You have a great family Ellie," Ryan said and smiled.

I weakly smiled. He's saying his family is not great at the moment.

"So, what are we doing today?" he asked perking himself up.

"Today? Uh-"

"Movie?" he asked.

I remembered how we watched a movie the day before. "Um, I'm not-"

"Video games!"

"No. That's Alex' thing," I said shaking my head.

"Really? Ano kayang meron sya? D'you know?"
