Another chapter in one day?! :o
Anyway, this one is much longer than the previous one, my lovelies XD
Enjoy!
. . .
I shivered and let out a shaky breath, seeing a white puff of air come from my mouth then disappearing.
Oh, how much I love winter. That's sarcasm at its finest right there.
I held the books I was carrying closer to my chest, feeling as if they might give off some heat.
"Eek!" I fell to the hard, icy ground with a loud thud, the books I was holding flying in all directions then landing on the thin layer of snow all around me. Gravity and I, we had a hate-hate relationship.
I heard someone snort behind me so I whirled my head around to find a boy with dark brown hair shaking with laughter. He tried to contain it when he noticed I was glaring at him, but failed. Rolling my eyes, I managed to stand up, only to collapse again over the slippery ice. The boy's laughter had faded into chuckles, but when he saw me fall yet again, he burst into hysterics once more.
I muttered a string of profanities under my breath and looked coldly at the guy a few feet away from me. "What are you laughing at?"
He grinned. "My imaginary friend just told me a great joke."
I gave him a flat look. Who was this guy? I crawled my way over to where the frozen puddle ended and quickly got up, dusting the snow off of me as best as I could. I looked behind me and saw that the boy was still standing there, looking at me amusedly. Giving him a victorious smile, I turned around and started to walk away.
"You forgot your books." He called from behind me. I could just hear the smirk in his voice.
I gritted my teeth and did a one-eighty, only he wasn't standing where he once had been, smirking like I'd expected. He was over the ice picking up my fallen books. All I could do was stare at him as he carefully walked over to me.
"Here." He smiled and handed me my books.
"Um, thanks." I hugged the books close to my chest. He was way taller up-close, at least a head taller than me.
"No problem."
I started the walk toward my house once again, looking at the ground every few steps to make sure I wasn't on some ice because I actually valued my life.
The guy hurried to walk beside me.
"Shouldn't you be going home or something?" I asked after a several minutes had passed and he was still walking alongside me.
"Last I checked, my house was this way." He gave me a sideways glance, smiling slightly.
I frowned. "How come I've never seen you around?" I asked more to myself than him.
"I just moved in recently." He explained.
"Oh." I said stupidly, awkwardly fixing my coat.
"I'm Grayson, by the way." He introduced after a pause.
"I would say it's a pleasure to meet you, Grayson, but my parents taught me not to lie."
To my surprise, he sniggered.
"Aren't you something else." He murmured with a ghost of a smile, his brown eyes twinkling.
I didn't know how to respond to that, so I kept my mouth shut.
