"Mum, dad, I'm home!" I yelled at my house as I dropped the car keys on the coffee table. " Mum?"
"Hello honey, welcome back." My mother bustled into the room and enveloped me in a bear hug.
I smiled into her warm chest.
"How was school today honey?" my mother ruffled my hair.
"Same old, same old." Apart from the fact that Oscar Bdight spoke to me. Twice.
I walked to the coffee table in the middle of the living room and picked up an M&M from the M&M bowl and popped it in my mouth.
"Somebody's home!" my dad yelled as he came through the door.
"Hey dad." I walked up to hug him, "Why are you home late?"
"Work." he sighed.
As he went to hug my mother, I realized that he wasn't as cheerful as he usually was. It had probably been a tough day at work.
I went up the stairs and into my room to lay on my bed. My room had sharp red wallpaper and the two cupboards (one that reached the ceiling and one that didn't) stood next to my floor length mirror and my normal window - all painted black.
My stuffed teddy bears sat on my desk next to my Macintosh computer which faced my blue desk chair. My queen sized bed sat in the middle of my room with its white pillow cases and duvet sheets which housed a cache of stuffed animals.
I looked up at my ceiling which had a lot of posters (Orange Is The New Black, Death note, Matt Shea, Markiplier etc) and in the center were a bunch of silver stars, to symbolize the times there were problems in my family that we got over.
"Come down for lunch honey!" I heard my mother yell before realizing how much time I spent looking at the ceiling.
"Coming!" I yell before running down the stairs.

"I got fired." my dad suddenly announces, making me choke on my roast chicken.
"Oh my goodness dad I'm so sorry." I say, wiping my mouth.
"What happened darling?" my mother managed to choke out.
"Mr Bdight's son - Oscar, I think you know him, Aberdeen - sent me to fetch him a cold cup of coke. I was busy signing papers for Mr Bdight so I forgot about it and by the time I had remembered, the boy found no need for the drink anymore and I was fired for slow response." my dad played with his food.
"That's absolutely sick! They can't be allowed to do that!" I yelled, outraged.
"And yet they can, Aber. I'm sorry." my dad bowed his head and my mother went to rub his back.
I stood up, angry. I ran up to my room despite the cries of my parents and slammed the door.
Oscar Bdight was nothing but a prissy spoilt white boy.
And I was going to get my father's job back.
~*~
I met Oscar Bdight in the school's control room with two security guards on the ground next to him the next day.
"Seriously? Because the coke came late?" I spat out, unable to hold it in.
He turned around, then smiled when he saw me.
"Ah, I was expecting you to have yelled at me earlier, like when you were giving me that death stare in English." he smiled, turning around.
"You're the worst human being that I have ever met." I said.
"Now, is that the way to talk to the only person who can get your father his job back?"
I couldn't believe my ears.
"You want to help me?" I said, staring at him unbelievably.
"Of course, I'll get something in return." he turned around and stared at the monitor ; "I need your help."
The way he spoke freaked me out because he sounded like Captain Cold in The Flash.
"Sure. What are you doing?" I stepped closer to him.
"They installed cameras in the gym and I need to disable so my blackmail of Judy still works. But this isn't what I need your held with anyways." He turned around and looked at me. "I want you to partake in a hostile takeover. I'm tired of Flaca Dains being the most popular girl in the school because she is slipping out of my control. I need someone to replace her and I think that someone can be you. I call it Project Popularity."
"Omg, what a rip off." the words were out of my mouth before I knew it.
"A rip off?" The place was eerily silent.
"Yeah, of that book on wattpad where the nerd/outcast works with popular guy to take the popular girl's place after she is indebted to him. She hit him with her car." I keep going.
"So what you're saying is that someone's already thought of my idea?"
"Kind of. But never fear! We can do something else?"
"Like what?"
"An exposé! We can find out something about her that she'd like to keep a secret and then tell the whole school!"
"Hmm." he smirked. "I like the way you think, roadkill." he started to walk out as I cringed then said; "Follow me."
I eyed the bodies on the floor.
"They're sleeping not dead. I a basketball player not a murderer."
"Right." I said then walked out behind him. I walked out of that room to meet whatever fate he had in store for me...
...while still being called roadkill.
