Beach party!

I grabbed my skateboard and smiled to myself as I put on my Mohawk helmet and ran down the street, put down my board and then took off. It wasn't illegal here for skateboarders to ride the sidewalk, most people here are considerate.

Today my best friend, Foster, is turning the big 17 and I had to help with some party decorations. She wasn't the big blow out party type person but I invited some of her other friends. Her brother Mychael was coming with his girlfriend, he is the second most important person.
He's bringing the ice cream!

I rode down the freshly paved sidewalk and rolled up into her driveway. She was sitting on her porch with a annoyed look until she saw me, then it was all Joy.

"Hey! Mom is killing me." She said in a complaining voice before hugging me.

"Can't be to bad Foster." I smirked before walking into her house and immediately felt like puking.

First off, everything was pink. Second it smelled like death with a mix of roses. It was honestly disgusting.

I backed up and looked at Foster with a innocent smile. "Let's having a party at the beach. We still have two hours anyways." I said with a smile and she grinned.

"Surfing party!!" She squealed happily before running inside with her nose covered.

I chuckled, what she didn't know is this was the whole set up. I already have a party set up at the beach at her favorite spot. We were gonna have a relaxing day on the beach, surfing and hanging around.

She came back out with her surfboard and her bikini on before grinning ear to ear. I smirked and took a running start before skating down the sidewalk, Foster behind me in her black Dodge Dart.

So let me explain our friendship. Opposites attract and that's kinda what happened(no we're not lesbian). Ever since we were little we've been inseparable. We've both been through the ups and downs of boyfriends and highschool and made it out alive. Foster is the innocent book worm with amazing grades. I'm the rebel outcast skater girl with several piercings and intimidating vibes. It's been this way since we were four. This year is senior year and we both have been accepted into the University of Florida. I'm going for Art and she's going to be a nurse. Kinda different futures but at least it's the same college.

When I arrived at the beach we weren't in seeing distance of the party which I was happy for.

I skated up to her door as she grabbed her surfboard and looked at me with a smile. "You already have your bathing suit?" She asked me with slightly furrowed eyes.

"Yea. I was gonna kidnap you, Frankie and Kye tonight after the party for some surfing." I said with a smile. It wasn't a lie, that's what I had originally planned before this.

She grinned before grabbing my hand and running towards her spot. As we neared the party her eyes got big as she ran faster.

"Happy birthday Foster!" I said along with the rest of the people as they clapped and hollered happily. I felt my heart race with happiness for my best friend. Today makes thirteen years we've been friends.

After everything quieted down I saw the familiar face before everyone else. My gut wrenched as I looked at Foster as she laughed along with some family. I snuck away slowly until I was out of sight when I looked at him with venomous eyes.

"Larken darling. Wonderful to see your bright face again. I see you are getting them ugly teeth fixed, how long have you had your braces now?" Desmond snickered before looking at me with a smirk.

"Get out of here. I swore I'd kill you three years ago and that still stands." I growled. My hands were shaking and my heart was thumping heavily.

"Come on princess. Not happy to see me?" He challenged as he shoved me against a large brick building.

"I'm... Not... Taking your crap this time." I said in between kicking him where the lights don't shine and in that pretty little face of his. He was on the ground by now, his face bleeding. The blood was mostly his but my knuckles were bleeding now.

"Something bad is going to happen to you. You'll see. Karma is a b****." He grinned and stood up and disappeared behind the building. I looked at my knuckles as I let out a shaky sigh. Walking back to the party, I hid my hands and forced a smile.

"Where did you go?" A voice asked behind me and I jumped around to see Foster with a flat look.

"Taking care business." I said before trying to hold in a laugh at the reference.

"Every day." She finished with a grin before shaking her head and laughing. "I trust you. Let me see your fist." She said looking at me with a slightly demanding voice. I admit, she knows me.

"Fos..." Before I finished she grabbed my arm and looked at my hands before sighing.

"Lark it's okay. Chill out." She smirked before grabbing my shoulder and handing me a huge bowl of cookie dough and strawberry ice cream.

Fun and laughter filled the rest of the afternoon until most people had left except for our surfing buddies.

"Lark come on!" Frankie yelled from the waters edge.

Frankie is a very talented surfer. He just graduated so he is a year older then Foster and I. He's been to Hawaii for a huge surfing competition but he had to come back cause his mother had a heart attack. He's been so good to me and Foster after some complicated things that happened in the past.

I finished off my fifth bowl of ice cream and grabbed my board before trotting towards my friends. Everything seemed to disappear, all my problems. Desmond, my father, basically everything wrong with my life.

There people are my family. They've basically adopted me, it's not like I have any blood family that cares. I'm a disgrace in their eyes, and I've accepted that.
