Hey mom

"Want some ice cream?" Foster asked as she walked into the house and walked into the kitchen.

"Mmmhmmm." I grumbled as I held the ice pack to my jaws. I got my braces tightened yesterday, it stinks.

"What would you do without me?" She laughed from the kitchen as she walked into the den and sat down beside me. She handed me a spoon and a whole tub of cookie dough ice cream.

"Hire someone to do this for me." I mumbled trying not to move my jaws.

"You have how many piercings yet you get your braces tightened and it's the end of the world." She teased lightly as she opened her moose tracks as took a huge scoop.

"A bunch." I said trying to count my piercings but it was almost impossible.

"I have six and that's nothing compared to you." She smirked and groaned when she ate the ice cream.

I looked at her and gave her the bird before grumbling and ended up eating the whole tub.

About three hours later a knock sounded at the door and I jumped up from beside a sleeping Foster and opened the door.

"Peppermint is that you?" Asked someone I thought I'd never seen again. The nickname was old, it was his favorite candy growing up. I know exactly who it was.

"Brandon?" I asked looking at him before looking back at Foster and then walked out into the deck and shut the door.

"It's so good to see you." He said hugging me tightly before pulling away. I forced a smile before flinching at the taste of metal in my mouth.

"So my mom passed away and my step dad basically dropped off the map. I'm coming to live with my father and was wondering if you would like to catch up over some burgers at the diner." He was talking quick which meant he uncomfortable.

"I'm sorry to hear that. Um sure why not." I grinned and nodded awkwardly.

"Cool I'll pick you up at seven." He smiled and walked down the steps and towards his little pickup truck. He waved before starting it up and pulling away.

I stood outside on the deck looking around like an idiot. I turned around and went inside and see a wide eyed smirking Foster.

"You heard everything didn't you." I deadpanned jokingly before a blush crept onto my face slightly.

She opened her mouth to reply but another knock at the door cut her off. I raised my eyebrow before looking through the peephole and seeing someone I thought I wouldn't see unless she needed something. I opened the door with a hardened look on my face.

"Hey mom." I said monotonously with an angry look on my face.

"Lark darling." She forced a smile and tried to push through me and into the house but I was easily able to keep her out. "Let me in." She said her voice rising.

"You expect after missing all of my birthdays I'll just let you in. Yea you give me money and pay for the house but I don't even know you." I spat venomously at her. She looked at me with a surprised but furious expression.

"G**D***** Larken Hayes Marine let me inside my house!" She yelled out. I could have sworn her eyes turned red when she said that.

"No." I commented. She looked at me with such anger but I was unprepared of what she was about to do. She took her fist and punched me so hard I felt my cheekbone break and my jaw crack. I fell into the wall and hit the floor.

"Oh my god!!" Foster screeched out as she ran to my side and then looked at my mother. "I'm calling the cops." She seethed and grabbed a phone and dialed the number.

Before Foster could explain anything to the operator, mom dragged me out the house and into her fancy Mercedes. She shoved me into the backseat and pulled out the driveway in a hurry. Foster ran out the door still on the phone when she raced towards the car but mom took off quickly.

Honestly I couldn't see anything except a black and red haze. I felt mom swerving all over the road, probably because of the sudden jerking.

"I'm sorry Lark. I'm taking to to the hospital." She said in shaky breathes.

"Ma stop..... The car." I said trying not to move my jaws, it was agonizing.

She mumbled out a bunch of stuff that I couldn't make out.
I don't know what happened.
Squealing tires, crunching metal, screams, breaking glass.
My eyes cleared up just enough to see a huge eighteen wheeler barrel over us. Mom crushed as tires ran over the hood. I couldn't scream, I couldn't move; the only thing I could do was watch. Watch as my whole world came crashing down.

'I think I died. I don't feel anything.
I don't know. I hear people..... Sirens.... Help, my mother.. I-I think she's dead. What are they saying?'

Those thoughts were going through the head of a dead girl. She was pronounced dead but somehow her heart and mind weren't ready to give up. She was transported to the nearest hospital by helicopter. She died seven times during the time of the accident and the time she arrived at the emergency room.

Her mother, Lillian Cross, died on impact. She was the best lawyer in the world. She made millions every couple of days.

Today, Lark lost her mother. She won't attend that date. Foster tried to commit suicide but Brandon saved her when he arrived to pick up Lark. The truck driver is facing manslaughter even though it wasn't his fault. Today changes everything.
