I shook my head, trying to clear my mind. I hadn't slept at all last night and I blamed Jacob for that. I'd been up all night thinking about him and Bianca and now I was practically falling asleep at my desk.
"You okay, Abby?" Jenna asked, poking her head into my office. I nodded my head and took a sip of my ice coffee. Jenna frowned and walked in, taking a seat on my couch. "Abs, I know you and I can tell you're not okay. What's bothering you? Did something happen with Bianca?"
I sighed. Jenna was the only person I could really tell. My brothers and the Grey boys would be pissed and hunt Jacob down, as would Kylie, TJ, and Falcon, and my six months pregnant sister didn't need that stress. Not to mention the fact that she told Killian everything and Killian would hunt Jacob down and kill him. So Jenna was the only person I could talk to. She was calm and sweet and always knew exactly what to say.
"Bianca's dad is back," I said, running my hand over my wild curls.
"Wow, that's gotta be hard."
"Yeah, no kidding. He ruined my life and destroyed my reputation but he also gave me the best thing to ever happen to me. I want to hate him so badly but he helped us yesterday. I fell and he helped me up and then Bee jumped off a swing and cut her chin open and he ran to his car to get his medical bag to give her stitches. He's a doctor. A fucking pediatric doctor! His life is all about kids and yet he doesn't even know that he has one!" I exclaimed.
Jenna smiled reassuringly at me. "I know he was terrible to you but it's been four years and people can change. He didn't hesitate to help a stranger up or take the time to patch up a little girl he'd never met before. He could have just called an ambulance but he didn't. He seems like he's changed and maybe he deserves a chance to prove it. Bianca is his daughter too and no matter how terrible he was to you, Bianca deserves the chance to know her father."
I sighed. "I know. But what if he tries to take her from me, Jen? I can't lose her! She's my baby!"
Jenna stood up and walked over to me, taking my hands in hers. "No one is going to let that happen, Abby. Now come on, let's go get some food in you. You can't live off of just coffee."
I stood up and grabbed my phone, sticking it in my back pocket and followed Jenna to the cafeteria. Luckily, the food there was actually really good.
I met Jenna a few weeks after finding out I was pregnant. I'd gone to a support group meeting for pregnant teenagers and teen mothers and met Jenna there. She had a one-year-old son and we instantly hit it off. We'd been best friends ever since. While I was super close to Kylie, Falcon, and my sister, it just wasn't the same since they were family.
"Max has been asking about Bianca again," Jenna said, grinning. I grinned back. From the moment he'd met her when she was just hours old, Max had been crazy about Bianca. The two were practically attached at the hip and it was obvious that he was in love with her. Both Jenna and I hoped that it would become something more than childhood friendship and puppy love. "It hasn't even been forty-eight hours and he already misses her."
"Come over tonight. You both can sleep over," I suggested. Jenna grinned and nodded her head in agreement.
"I'll bring snacks and movies!" she offered.
"Abby?" The smile fell from my face and I looked to my left where Jacob was standing in scrubs, looking sexy as hell.
"Jacob. What are you doing here?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest. His eyes, of course, dipped down to check out my cleavage and I glared at him.
He smirked. "I told you yesterday that my brother plays baseball here," he said.
"How come I've never seen you here before?" I questioned.
He smiled. "Just moved back here. Went to John Hopkins for school and lived there for a bit before deciding I wanted to be closer to my family. What are the odds we both end up in the same town, huh?" I nodded. Evergreen Creek was about a half an hour from the high school we'd gone to but my family and friends all ended up here for the most part.
"Oh."
"So what exactly is it you do here?" he asked.
"Everything. I'm the assistant director but I work with everyone. I oversee every department but for the most part, my job is just making sure that the place runs smoothly and everyone is happy but I help coach teams, run support groups, and work with the daycare," I explained. I did a lot but I loved my job and Bianca loved coming to work with me. She spent part of the day in the daycare and part of it with me before we went home. Once a week I had evening support groups so Jenna would take Bianca home and watch her until I was done.
"How's your daughter? Bianca right?" I nodded.
"Better."
"Good. Well, I should go get Brandon. I promised I'd take him and Chelsea out to dinner," Jacob said. He looked at Jenna. "I'm sorry, I didn't get your name. I'm Jacob."
Jenna smiled and gave me a look. "Jenna. I'm Abby's best friend," she said, a warning in her voice. She was one of the only people who knew Jacob was Bianca's father.
Jacob looked at me. "We should get Bianca and Chelsea together sometime. They're the same age and I think they'd get along great," Jacob said, surprising me. I hesitated before nodding slightly. "Great! See you soon, Abby."
