"Ready, Set, B Da fire!"
It started out as a normal kids game. A friendly competition played between friends. None of us knew the truth, that the forces we were playing with were real.
In our town and a few others in the surrounding area, we play it religiously. It's actually a team sport you can play in the school division. Heck, the guy who hand crafts the B Damans for the towns, he legally changed his name to Armada, as in Armada the giant cat B Daman master from the show.
Of course in the towns we only play with the basic models, Armada has always said he'll make a real one like the ones from the show to the one who proves themselves worthy. No one ever has. Everyone including myself thinks that in order to prove yourself worthy you have to win the tournament in some kind of special way. I've never won, so I'm never going to get a special B Daman. I was headed out to go to work, I had to make a quick stop in the Kitchen where my dad was sitting reading the newspaper.
"You know Armada won't let you go to work unless your homework's-"
I handed him my homework from today.
"One more thing before you go, Leyna is coming over tonight, so could you pick up some fruit juice on your way back?" Dad asked
"Don't worry Dad I got you covered."
I guess I should introduce myself, I'm Maylene. My Dad, Seth, is one of the top B Da players in town. I also work at Armada's shop, and am the only female B Da player in town. The only reason my Dad's a top player is that if a boy wants to date me they have to beat my dad in a direct hit battle. I passed by someone I've never seen before in town, she looked kind of in a hurry.
At the house
The doorbell rang.
"Here already? It's not even five o clock yet."
Seth opened the door.
"Hello Seth."
"May."
"May I come in?"
"Yes of course. What are you doing here?"
"I've come to see if our son is here, I thought this would be the place he'd come."
"Yamato's missing?" Seth asked
"I'm afraid so. If you don't know where he is, I'll check with Armada."
"Wait! Maylene doesn't know about you, her brother or the B Da world. She doesn't even know the truth about Armada."
"Ok I won't go to Armada then. Can you at least give me some money for a hotel room?"
At the shop.
"Armada? You didn't close up already did you? Oh, there you are." I said to a napping Armada. He works eighteen hours a day, I mean he doesn't keep the store open that long but the guy barley gets any sleep. I'll sweep up, mop, then leave a note for him.
Just as I finished sweeping he woke up.
"Ah there you are."
"Armada what did we agree on about working on new B Damans?"
"I know I know. This one was special though, do you remember what Grey's B Daman was in the show?"
"Yeah, Chrome Zephyr. It was a speed type, the fast reload kind. Why?"
"I've been working on a, pseudo brother to it if you will, behold, my design for Windrush Zephyr."
"It looks exactly like Chrome except green."
"This one is special, it combines the attack power of Cobalt Sabre and Chrome Zephyr, it's a powerful combination of the two."
"It's only a design though."
"Should someone prove themselves they may have it. Anyways I'm closing up early today, there's been no orders for repairs or extra parts and whatnot. You may go."
I headed back home, after grabbing some orange juice from the grocery store.
On the outskirts of town, a portal opened. A person wearing a brown poncho and hat walked through.
"I saw Yamato's mom come through here, but where is here?" Grey asked
