Chapter 12

Mackenzie POV

  I woke up with back on Rico's chest and his arms wrapped around me. I sat up and looked at him, he was still sleep. I thought about my life and how it changed for the better the day we met. I moved in with a complete stranger and felt more loved then I ever did living with my own mother. I may have finally found a real family. "It's not polite to stare" he said snapping me out of my thoughts. "What you thinking bout" he asked. "Nothing" I said standing up. "Where you going" he asked grabbing my arm. I turned to him and said "I gotta get ready for work" I said. He sighed, he doesn't hates when I go to work. "Why won't you quit and let me take care of you" he said while pulling me closer to him. "Because I wanna make my own money and support myself" I told him. "But I'll support you I'll buy you everything you need" he said. "You know how I feel about people spending money on me" I said. "You gonna have to get over that shit then" he said. "And what if I don't" he said. "Don't try me just know your quitting today matter fact Ima go with you when I drop you off I wanted to get me you and Zion matching shoes anyway" he said. I rolled my eyes "whatever" I said because I could tell he wasn't gonna let this go.

  I went to go take a shower. Then I put on a white shirt, ripped jeans, and my all white air forces. I put my curly hair up into a bun. I went downstairs and saw Rico sitting on the couch wearing the same thing as me except his jeans weren't ripped. "awwe look at my baby trying to match me" he said. "Whatever lets go get this over with" I said.

We walked into the mall and went straight to footlocker. I saw Nyah at the cash register as usual. "Hey Kenzie, why you not in uniform, I mean you and Rico look cute and all but that bald, fat, and ugly creature that stalks young workers from behind that door is gonna have a problem with it" Nyah said. I laughed at how she referred to our boss. "He's your uncle" I said. The fact that they were related was the only reason her lazy ass ain't get fired. "So, he be working me too much" she said. He wasn't that bad she's just mad because he said she can't hide shoes in the back until she pays for them. "Today's her last day" Rico said while looking at some pink, white, and black retros. "What do you mean it's your last day" Nyah said. "Somebody is making me quit" I told her while looking Rico up and down. "Ima kick his ass now I can't work with my best friend Ima be so lonely" she said and we hugged each other. "Do you want these" Rico said showing me the shoes he was looking at. "Don't talk to us anymore" Nyah said to Rico. "Yea but didn't you want matching ones" I said. "We're still getting the matching ones but I'll just buy you two pairs" he said and I nodded. "Go get these in your size and these in yours, mine, and zion's before you quit" Rico said while handing me my shoes and some blue and white retros. I went to the back got the boxes then gave them to Nyah so she can ring them up.

I went to my bosses office and knocked. "Come in" I heard his voice say. I walked in. "Mackenzie what brings you to my office and why are you out of uniform" he asked. "Today's my last day" i told him. "It'll be hard to find someone that worked as hard as you did" he said. "Well I gotta go" I said. "If only I could get my niece to quit too"I heard him mumble to himself. I chuckled and walked out.

I saw Rico sitting on the bench on his phone. I went and sat down next to him. "Did you do it" he asked. "Yes" I said with an attitude. "Good" he said and stood up. We walked out the mall and almost died when I saw a familiar face in the parking lot. It was the boy from when me, Nyah, and Kendall went shopping. The one that made her all nervous and shit. He was getting into a car. I nearly freaked out when I saw the driver.

It was Ray.

He looked at me and winked. I moved closer to Rico. I don't know why but I always feel safer close to him. "What's wrong" he asked. After we both got into the car. "Nothing" I lied. "Don't lie to me" he said. I let out a sigh "I saw someone" I said looking down. "Well who did you see" he asked. "I-I umm I saw Ray" I struggled to get out. "Where" he asked. "In a car" i said. "What car" he said. I could tell he was getting mad. I looked up and the car was gone. "They left" I said. "They what do you mean they who else was he with" he asked. "This guy" I said. He sighed "ok stop shaking and we're gonna go to your dads house" he said and started driving. I looked at my hands and they were shaking. I didn't even notice. I took a deep breath and tried to relax and closed my eyes so I could think of something else.

I just hope everything turns out ok.
