Jen

"'Your mother died to save you. If there is one thing Voldemort cannot understand, it is love. He didn't realize that love as powerful as your mother's for you leave its own mark. Not a scar, no visible sign...to have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever. It is in your very skin. Quirrell, full of hatred, greed and ambition, sharing his soul with Voldemort, could not touch you for this reason. It was agony to touch a person marked by something so good.'" Nik recited before folding over the top of the page in a dog ear. This action was repeated over the course of the novel as previously shown from the numerous amounts of creases on the read pages.

He removed his cap to scratch his head and his unruly brown hair was left dented. His dark eyes peered up at me from beneath his long lashes, curiosity pooled in the abyss of their depth.

"Where's your boyfriend?" Nik asked, putting his book down beside him which just so happened to be Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

I blush lightly at his inquisition before searching for Shawn. I almost immediately spot his tall form, he was playing with a small girl with the curliest blonde hair I've ever seen. She was holding his hand tightly in fear of falling off of the jungle gym. I smile at the sight, finding it adorable how he handled her with such care.

"He's not my boyfriend." I respond lightly, "but he's playing with the other kids, over there." I point to him.

"He looks nice." Nik observes, shuffling to pull his knees to his chest. "He's very tall."

I laugh at his comment, agreeing that Shawn has a large figure.

"Do you want to meet him?" I ask, brows raised. Nik looks at me quickly, horror written over his face.

"No," he says bluntly, his voice registering intimidation and shyness. He pulls his cap lower over his face.

"Why not?" I ask, not understanding his reluctance. I gently pry his cap to sit higher on his head and fix his hair.

"What if he doesn't like me?" He asks in return.

"I think he'll love you. I promise." I say, smiling reassuringly.

I stand, holding my hand outstretched for him to take. His miniscule hands grip mine for support and we begin walking toward Shawn.

Currently, he is securing a band-aid on the blonde little girls arm at the bench we ate lunch at. Her tear stained face notices our presence and she lightly taps Shawn's shoulder.

"Oh, hey," he says, his eyes glancing from me to the little boy who is now hidden behind me.

"Nik just wanted to meet you." I spoke, moving out from in front of him.

Shawn smiles immediately, crouching so he meets Nik's height.

"So you're a reader, huh?" Shawn asks, then shifting to sit on the ground Indian style.

Nik nods, observing Shawn's every movement, from the way he runs a hand through his hair to the way his eyes shift from Nik to me.

"He's just a bit shy." I shrug, sitting on the ground slowly as well. I glance at the little blonde girl, her petite form moving to sit beside Shawn, intently listening with keen interest.

All of a sudden Nik hugs me, only it's not a hug.

"I forgot my book." He whispers in my ear. I catch on to his meaning immediately, whispering back that I'd retrieve it for him.

Shawn

I watch as Jen walks away, going to where Nik sat previously under a tree. Before I can do anything to assist her movements as she bends down Nik captures my attention as he shuffles to now whisper something in my ear.

"Do you know that she likes you?" He whispers, scratching his face. He's completely serious as he says this, his dark eyes boring into mine.

"Did she tell you that?" I asked, shocked that he would bring that to my attention.

"No, but I can tell." He says, pulling his knees to his chest as he sits down a distance away from me. His hands clasp around his legs to firmly lock them in place.

"You should take her on a date!" Exclaims Frior beside me. It is beyond me how she even knows what that is. She mustn't be passed the age of four. It seemed to have slipped my mind when asking her questions, her being extremely chatty and could never focus on a single topic.

I hum, pondering the situation. Did I see Jen that way?

"Maybe." I say, rubbing my chin. I would feel more comfortable staying friends but then again I never opened up my mind to the possibility of something more. Would and how would that affect our relationship if that were to occur? I mean she indubitably has attractive and love defining characteristics, but could I? I run my hands through my hair, deciding that I would think on it later.

"Maybe what?" I hear her say, her voice melodic in the way it flows sweetly through the air.

"Nothing," I reply slightly to fast. She shoots me a dubious look, her brows forming a V as her lips create a small frown. My sight lingers on her lips longer than I intended to and it's then that a look away, when her red wine tongue darts out to wet them.

My line of vision is now secured on Frior's band-aid, the pink plastic having been imprinted with a picture of Doc McStuffins. It is a good thing her mother was well prepared, the scrape on her arm the result of one of the larger kids nudging her on the sidewalk. They didn't even spare her a second glance as they sprinted along the pavement.

"You know, it might be time for us to go, Jen." I say hesitantly glancing into her eyes, and as soon as I do, I'm lost in their depth, all my words escaping with a single breath.

I guess I made up my mind quicker than I thought.

(A/N): So, I have updated once again. It's not quite filled with figurative language but I did add some personification at the end there. It was more dialogue detailed than previous chapters, but I think Nik and Frior both filled their roles. Speaking of, I'm not sure if they will make appearances in future chapters as well but we shall see. Okay, lastly, I want to thank y'all like always, we are nearing 800 reads and that is beyond anything I could've asked for. I hope you guys have had an amazing summer so far, and I want you all to stay beautiful! xx.
