"Good afternoon and welcome to McDonalds, may I take your order?" A woman says over the intercom.
We were currently at the drive thru to McDonalds. I hadn't eaten anything so fattening within a matter of days and for some reason I was craving fries and a chocolate shake so the obvious answer to my predicament was Ronald McDonald's house.
"Can I please have a six piece chicken nugget kids meal with a small chocolate shake please?" Shawn asks politely in return. He is bent slightly out of the window as I currently hum along to John Mayer singing softly. I can't help but admire him, his genuine personality shining through when he turns around to smile slightly at me before completing the order.
"Have you eaten yet?" I ask, both out of curiosity and concern that he is putting my necessities before his own.
"Not yet, I was hoping to stop by Chipotle before going to a park to eat?" He asks almost as if he is expecting me to decline.
"Of course," I reply.
Although my insecurities are bothering me about how he is healthier in comparison to me, I brush them away. I have simply been trying to live better and with everything that has been going swell for me as of lately, I try to focus on the positives.
The atmosphere soon goes into a comfortable silence. I watch as Shawn drums his fingers on the wheel, his rhythm random but soothing. It doesn't match the slow tempo of the song and I can't help but wonder what he's thinking about. I trail my gaze along his arm to his shoulder and eventually end up at his face. His eyes blink slowly, staring straight ahead and his cheeks turn to a rosy pink.
"I know you're staring." He says, a smile lacing his voice as I quickly turn away in embarrassment.
"Sorry," I mumble. I lean my head on the window and close my eyes. This position, however, doesn't last as the car moves forward and is soon enveloped in the scent of food.
"Thank you so much." I hear Shawn say.
"You're welcome, here is your small chocolate milk shake as well." Another feminine voice speaks, different from the first. There is a flirty tone to it and all at once my attention is focused on her. Inconspicuously, I scrutinize her, both envying and admiring her grayish blue eyes. A stud is embedded within the flesh of her nose but she pulls it off. Her brunette hair is pulled back into pig tails that would otherwise look ridiculous, but again she manages to look stunning.
Her contact with Shawn while passing along the order lingers a little bit longer than necessary and I force myself to look away, trying to maintain my composure. There is no doubt that I read more to the situation than there actually was. She was just being friendly; it's apart of her job.
"Have a nice day!" She says enthusiastically. I gulp, gauging Shawn's reaction. Oddly enough his attention is captured by me, the chocolate milk shake in his hand.
"Do you care if I take a sip?" He asks, brows raised.
I shake my head in response, watching as his impossibly pink and plump lips make contact with the straw. They look soft but firm and I hastily force myself to do something other than stare. A CD container captures my interest and I flip through the many discs, trying to focus on anything other than Shawn. The discs range from Ed Sheeran to John to even Whitney Houston.
So many depressing love songs. I almost laugh as I register the irony of the situation. Here I am being naïve enough to think of Shawn that way and these objects of which contain some level of realism are mocking me. What an interesting turn of events from the serenity of the woods.
"You should take your meds now before you forget." Shawn advises.
I nod in acknowledgement, clutching my bag from the below my feet, being careful not to put pressure on my midsection as much as possible. I have two medication bottles; one I only take at night and the other I take every eight hours. Reading the small orange containers I quickly decipher which is which.
Shaking one tablet from the correct bottle, I slip it passed my lips and follow it with the chocolate shake, my mind wandering around the thought that Shawns mouth had occupied this spot previously. I shake them loose though, not revolving around those thoughts for very long.
Soon enough Shawn brings a paper bag from Chipotle, black words arranged in a miraculous way to seize the viewers eye. It was very interesting, art in advertisement. It didn't last long, Shawn ripping it open as soon as we were sat at a park, the bench msd of a rubber feeling material.
Joyful laughter surrounded us, children chasing one another while their mothers looked on. It was pleasant, both the fries in my mouth and the obvious fun the kids were having.
One little boy caught my eye, his current position under a tree to shelter him from the sunlight. In his fragile but sturdy hands lay a book. A book full of mass quantities of pages. The boy looked to be about six and he was reading instead of playing with the others, which I found quite peculiar. Brown locks adorned his head and escaped his 40's looking cap. He was dressed in a short blue plaid shirt with khaki shorts and sperries to protect his feet. He looked very classy for a child.
I squint to try to see the book he is reading but am unable to due to his distance. I sigh in defeat, maybe I'll say hi after I eat.
"Everything okay?" Shawn speaks, licking his lips to finish off his burrito. My center of interest flickers to his mouth before meeting his eye contact.
"Everything is amazing," I say, "Thank you for lunch."
Shawn smiles at me in return and his ears turn a slight shade of pink but I choose not to comment on it.
Everything is wonderful.

(A/N): New update is here guys! It is unedited but I hope y'all enjoy otherwise. We're reaching the brink of 1k and I couldn't be happier. I was going to update yesterday since it was my birthday but my family kept me on my toes so I was unable to. Before I say anything else I'd like to inform all of you that I will probably be combining some chapters to make them longer since every chapter has been around 1000 words which is really short. I will either only combine 2 chapters or maybe 3 depending on the length of some, but I hope y'all don't mind. I hope you guys are enjoying the story so far, comments and even votes are much appreciated since I'd love interaction with some of y'all, but I'll see you all next time! xx.
