Intramurals '17

Eleanore

Every year, just like the fair, we have our intramurals. What I find unusual about it is that: all the three schools'- including mine- intramurals are always on the same dates. The students from mine take advantage of this opportunity to be able to be with the boys in a joint training.

There are three schools found in the city's vicinity. Their names don't matter so I call them A, B, and C. A is the all-girls school where I come from, B is an all-boys school, while C is a Co-Ed school.

Being part of the Football Varsity, my batch mates expected me to join the intramurals team, so I did every year. Up until now, however.

"How in the world are we suppose to keep our winning streak?" screams Alice, our batch's captain of the football intramurals team.

"Keep the ball out of our net, then you'll win," I say simply.

"But you're the school's best goal keeper! That's your job!"

I stood up and looked directly into her eyes, "Trust the newbees," I say, then walk off. I was a head taller than Alice, I guess it frightened her a bit when I did that. Pity.

"With you as the batch's representative in the aquathlon," Martha starts the moment I take a seat beside her, "No one's got the chance of beatin' us!" She laughs loudly. "Anyway, it's our senior year so we've got to win!"

"What about you? What sport are you going to join?"

"I'm the Water Polo's captain, Elli!" I forgot, "And guess what?! I've already made arrangements with our joint training with B's Water Polo Captain!" She winks then screams, "Ohmigod, I can not wait to see their abs!"

"Oh goodness, Martha, you're so inappropriate!"

"Shut up, Eleanore!" She whacks my arm. "Don't you wanna have a joint training? I mean, it's an aquathlon so you've gotta swim, right?" Then she wiggles her eyebrows.

"I'll be training with myself," I say simply.

"Prude," I hear her say.

"Dick," I retort.

"I do not have a dick, excuse you! I have chimichangas!" Martha's screams always catches attention, this one caught everybody's. She immediately sat down and screamed a 'sorry'. I was laughing at this so she whacked me again.

4:06 AM

Every morning, beginning today, I've decided I would jog. I would jog around up until half past five, take a shower, then bike going to school rather than taking the bus. After school, I'll be seen in the school's pool practising.

Grabbing my jacket, I walk out into the cool morning air outside. The sun wasn't up. It wouldn't even start to rise until an hour and a half later.

I doesn't matter if I leave my water bottle at home. What matters is that I have my phone and earphones. So I put them on, and played a random song. What first played was Roar by Katy Perry, just no. I immediately changed it to something that would fit the dark sky I would be under.

Put out these fires in my head space Cause I'm wide awake
Why I am I awake?
The city sits below and we take, shots at the moon
I wanna give it to you

I stretch for a minute then begin running. The cool September air was all over me. I was now at the circular park. Rather than jogging in it, I just jogged around it.

After around an hour and a quarter, my legs began to feel numb. Not wanting to stop now, I continue to jog. Fifteen minutes later, my leg gives out under me and I fall.

"Hey!" I hear a low voice. A guy, I presume. "You okay over there?" I look over to where the voice was coming. I couldn't see who was talking, only his silhouette against the lantern. He was opposite my side of the park. I'm surprised he was even able to see me, "Do you need help?" He screams, beginning to jog over to me.

"No!" I scream. He stops. "I'm okay!" I could now see what he wore. A blue dri-fit shirt, gray jacket, some shorts, and headphones. I still couldn't see his face though.

"You look hurt, are you sure you're okay?" He asks. He has a nice voice.

Counting to three, I lift myself up on wobbly legs. "I'm okay," I whisper. "Sorry for bothering your jog," I give a dry laugh and jog off towards home.

The park was a bit far off, so the moment I arrived home, it was already 5:36 in the morning. Then I realized something.

Oh my god. Where was my other ear phone? I searched my pockets and looked around me. It wasn't there. I had only one on my left ear, where was the right? "It must have fallen when I fell,"

Sam Bruno's Search Party was still playing on my left earphone. It'd be so weird if someone found that with my music playing. I hope I get to find it tomorrow morning, I think while I enter the house to get ready for school.

Intramurals were nearing in, and I had to ready my endurance. Every morning until the end of intramurals, I decided to run around the city.

I woke up at half past four today. Grabbing my jacket and headphones, I run down and out of the door. So that it wouldn't be weird seeing me run around holding a pair of headphones, I chose to wear them while I run.

Closing in on Helms Park, a circular park found in the city, the headphones suddenly sprang to life. Not literally.

And I built a home; for you; for me
Until it disappeared; from me ;from you

Cinematic Orchestra, I think.

Around five am, a girl who was also jogging here fell. I stopped. I took off my headphones, and asked if she was okay. She kept on insisting she was. I tried to approach her, and help her up. It seemed she didn't want any help. Getting up, she whispered a little something I couldn't hear right, then ran off.

There was a small pink and silver dot that laid where she was before. I grabbed it and nearing it to me, I realized that there was music coming from it. Wireless ear phones. I listen closely and it was the song 'Search Party' that was playing.

Holy shit. That same song was playing on my head phones right now. I looked over to where the girl ran off to, however there was no trace of her.

Coincidence? I think not. I just met my Cinderella, and I'm still going to find her.
