When entering Kate's home, they could instantly tell what kinda of person she was.
Contrary to popular belief: Kate wasn't tidy - far from it; there were mugs scattered across the living room, an unfolded blanket that lazed on the walnut coloured, leather sofa and a pair of glasses that were sprawled onto her glass coffee table.
Overall the house was clean - it just wasn't neat. They glanced around were drawn to the homely and minimalistic feel of the warm brown and cream theme of her home.
"Sorry about the mess," Kate apologised, if she knew that she was going to invited people over she would have tidied up. "Make yourselves at home."
Evelina had no trouble doing this and flopped herself onto the sofa and let out a huge sigh. "We should get a sofa this comfy." And began to snuggle up to the side.
Fleur was surprised with this laid back behaviour because usually Evelina was so cripplingly awkward that she refuses to leave her room for most days of the week.
"You know we can't afford it Eve, plus, with my deadlines I wouldn't even be able to sit on the coach for more than five minutes."
Fleur also noticed how there seemed to be men's products scattered around the house such as aftershave and razors, but when they asked Kate if the two of them were intruding, Kate replied that she lived alone.
For the next week, Evelina and Fleur shared the double bed in the guest bedroom.
As for helping out- it wasn't too difficult for the pair as during their university days they often jumped from job to job. Fleur mainly worked on the illustrations for local magazines but occasionally followed Evelina to work to get ideas for characters and setting.
Evelina on the other hand worked many different jobs, from cafés to supermarkets, she could ever keep a job for too long because it would bore her. She had once helped Fleur with their illustrations, but she did more damage than help.
During days when people flooded in were the times that Kate would call Fleur and Evelina, otherwise the two would go out and explore. It was nice to finally feel like they belonged. Both of them have kept their true selves hidden away since high school; Evelina was yet to come out to her parents but Fleur promised to be with her every step of the way when she felt that she was ready.
Quickly and effortlessly days passed and soon they were preparing for pride; the couple dressed themselves in pink, yellow and blue to show their pansexual pride. Both went all out. Contact lenses, dyed hair, even rainbow highlighter on the apples of their cheeks.
"You guys look great," Kate burst from happiness; she would've been dancing along the sides and throwing the coloured paint with them if she didn't have to look after the shop. "Want me to take a picture of you guys together?"
Fleur nodded and handed their phone over to Kate. They wrapped their right arm around Evelina's waist, pressing her body close to theirs, the touch was soft gentle and creating prickles of pins and needles on both parties.
Once the photo was taken Fleur kept their arm around Evelina's waist and kept it there until they had to get in Kate's car. Throughout the short journey to the café Fleur kept on sneaking glances at Evelina as she chatted animatedly to Kate about how she was so excited for the pride parade. Kate laughed at her childish reaction and reminded them to have fun.
When they finally pulled up at the café's car park Kate warned Fleur and Evelina, "Just remember, even though pride was for equality there are some people that are strongly against it. Be careful okay?" She asked making sure that she got her message across to them.
"Okay mum!" Evelina laughed and took Fleur by the hand, causing both of them to feel sparks, and dragged them to where pride was being held.
"Call in me in case of an emergency!" Kate called out. As the weeks had gone past both Evelina and Fleur had grown on her and she couldn't stand the idea of either of them getting hurt.
Kate quickly locked the car and headed toward the back entrance of the café to open it. Just as she opened the door she got attacked into a hug by Jamie.
"Hiya Kate!" He exclaimed. He had only just arrived from the airport and was still wearing his smart, navy suit. Ever since the scene at airport he had been trying to spend as much time with Kate as possible, and he welcomed the weird feeling he got whenever Kate was around.
"What do you want?" Kate asked.
"Well, pride is today and I know you're gonna need an extra pair of hands, so I came by to help you out." Jamie explained.
"Well, what are you waiting for?" Kate asked as she turned around, hoping to hide the blush that was forming on her cheeks from Jamie. "The café is gonna open any second now!" She quickly walked inside into the kitchen.
They both got to work and entered a comfortable silence as they got to work; getting the rainbow cheesecakes plated up; turning the oven on and setting up the menu for today.
Evelina and Fleur on the other hand were getting hyped up for the pride parade, it was going to go through Mayfair at around 9:00am and run late into the night. After all, Mayfair was known for having extravagant celebrations.
The day passed rather quickly, much to the friends dismay and it was around two in the afternoon that they both started getting hungry. They walked into a small family owned diner called Ed's and ordered nearly everything off the menu. The afternoon passed by quickly and they paid for their meal, yet another argument about who gets to pay, and they both walked down a small road leading to the centre of the parade. They walked in a comfortable silence, and Fleur was the first to break it.
"Remember back in high school when this girl kept on changing her sexuality just because she wanted to be interesting?" Fleur smiled.
"Oh I remember her! What about her?" Eve asked, curious as to why Fleur brought it up.
"Doesn't that brick house remind you of the colour of her hair?"
They both burst out laughing and they soon got to edge of the quite road where it met with a busy main road.
There was a swarm of colour. People dressed up and coloured paint circled the air.
They felt like they belonged.
