Chapter 4

"Jamie, it's your mother." Haley says to a despondent Jamie.

"Just leave mother." Jamie responds coldly to her.

"Jamie, please." Haley pleads with her son.

"Just leave!" Jamie angrily tells her.

Just as Haley is about to leave, Millie comes into Jamie's hospital room bursting with excitement.

"Millie, you look so excited." Haley tells her daughter-in-law.

"I have great news for Jamie and I!" Millie squeals, barely able to contain her excitement.

"Well, good luck telling Jamie." Haley tells her, as she lets Millie inside Jamie's room.

As Haley leaves the two of them alone, Millie goes to Jamie's bedside.

"Jamie, I have great news!" Millie tells him excitedly.

"What could possibly be so great now?!" Jamie says bitterly.

"I have a job with Home Interiors Design magazine!" Millie eagerly tells her husband.

"Great!" Jamie says coldly. "You can leave your dependent husband!"

"Jamie, I love you, why would I do that?" Millie chastised him.

"Because I'm no use to you." Jamie said bitterly. "You're better off without me!"

"Jamie, I'm not leaving you." Millie says defiantly. "You're stuck with me forever."

"Just go!" Jamie screamed at her. "All of you, just leave me alone!"

"Hey, what's going on in here!" the doctor comes in after hearing the commotion.

"Doctor, please tell my wife and parents to leave me alone!" Jamie angrily tells the doctor.

"Millie, I know you mean well, but I think you should go before you anger your husband." The doctor tells her. "I'm sure in the morning, Jamie will be up to visits."

As the doctor sees Millie out, Jamie angrily yells after them, "No, I won't!"

Millie is crying when the doctor shows her to the waiting room where Nathan and Haley have been impatiently waiting.

"Millie, what's wrong?" Haley asked her with concern.

"Jamie hates me!" she cries as Haley holds her in her arms.

"I know you mean well, but I think you should go home and get a good night's sleep." The doctor tells them. "Let Jamie be for the night. He's angry at the moment. Give him some time to heal and deal with his injuries."

Nathan and Haley take Millie home to her parents, Mouth and Millicent McFadden, at Millie's request.

"Millicent, Millie wanted to stay the night." Nathan told her when she answered the door to find her daughter crying.

"Baby, come in." Millicent hugged her daughter.

Nathan got back in the car and drove home to his and Haley's home. The silence between them was deafening.

"Haley, we need to let Jamie be and let him come to terms with his injuries in his own time." Nathan tried to reason with his wife.

"I don't agree. Jamie needs us!"

"I agree, but Jamie isn't responding to our help right now. He needs time to himself."

Haley was silent as Nathan tried to reason with her.

"Please Haley. Just give our son some time to deal with all this."

But Haley just went up to her room and shut the door, shutting Nathan out.
