'Wait..what?' I ask her, burrowing my frow and hoping this is some kind of joke.
'I spent the whole weekend with James...' Amélie replies to me, taking a sip of her tea.
'You're joking, aren't you?'
'No'
'YOU LITTLE BITCH' I shout at her, throwing my drink at her and slapping her across the face.
How dare she? That's my dad, my fucking dad! She's known him ever since we were both four. It's wrong, it's pure argh!
'No, Carly. It wasn't like that. We didn't mean to go off behind your or Alfie's back, I didn't want to hurt you. You have got to understand that please' Amélie replies to me, holding the side of her face.
'Do you love him? ANSWER ME!' I shout at her, everyone else in the café looking at us.
Amélie just stares at the floor, refusing to make eye contact with me.
'Oh god' I whisper out, my hand covering your face 'You do..'
I run out of the café, heading straight to the end of the pier. My once unmessy hair flying behind me, I stop like halfway though because I sucked at PE in high school. I'm not joking, I used to get tired walking up the school stairs. I flop myself down onto a bench, trying to get my head around everything. Now, you have to understand. It's wrong in my eyes. It's my best friend and my dad.
My own dad.
He's seen her grow up, been to all her birthday parties and even helped over her first heartbreak with the ginger twat (we don't like to talk about it, it's creepy) and now he loves her?
I unlock my phone and scroll down my contacts, trying to phone Alfie.
'Hello?' Alfie voice says to me, cracking up a bit because the signal is shit here.
'Can I ask you something?'
'Yeah, what is it Carls?'
'What do you do when someone falls in love with someone who seems completely unlikely. Like you would never have thought that she could fall in love with? Would it be wrong?'
'Oh Carly. Of course it would be wrong but the heart can't be controlled can it? If someone truly loves someone then there is no boundaries, no restrictions. Just love. Sweet love'
Ah, the benefits of having a Jeremy Kyle brother.
'I guess'
'Now leave me alone, I'm watching the conjuring and someone is about to get possessed' Alfie finishes before hanging up on me.
Huh, I would be lost without him. I truly would.
'You know, if you keep a frown on your face and the wind changes, you'll stay like that forever' Amélie says from behind me, letting out a small laugh.
'Hey, you got the milkshake out of your hair' I say to her as she sits down next to me, nudging her.
'Yeah. The waitress gave me a cloth to get it out. I mean, I still smell of strawberries' Amélie replies to me as I pull her into a hug.
'I'm sorry about before' I begin to say to her 'I don't know what came over me'
'Ah, don't apologise. I would have done the same thing'
'Really?'
'Yes, really' Amélie says to me, unlocking her phone and checking her texts.
'Oh and by the way, you can be with my dad' I say to her, standing up and pulling her up with me.
'Really?!' Amélie exclaims, her eyes lighting up.'Yeah, why not? Just don't have sex when I'm there'
'That I can't promise you' Amélie laughs out and we walk back home, the sea air hitting us like a ton of bricks.
