I left my HEART in Metropolis

I hum softly to myself as I walk slowly down the sidewalk. I watch the ice patches crack under my feet with each step. I am absolutely in love with this town. Owatonna Minnesota, a cute and quiet place with a decent amount of people. Lots of snow. I've already had one snowball fight babysitting the kids next door. One neighbor has already invited me to a Christmas party too. It's at some fancy mansion, and I need a dress for it. That's my plan for the day, find a dress for this ball thing. I finally reach the little thrift shop on the main road. I walk to the dresses, and I sift through the many wedding dresses, with barely any COLORED things at all. Not a single prom dress in sight. I sigh, and I look around myself. My eyes catch a red ruffle poking out from in between two dresses. I push the wedding dresses back, and a red dress that would be perfect sits on the rack. I pull it out and I walk to the dressing rooms. I change quickly, and I manage to zip the dress by myself. I look in the mirror. Perfect fit. I smile, and I try to think of a jacket that would go with it, after all it didn't have sleeves. I walk back to the racks still in the dress, and I find a white wrap that would make do. I walk back to the dressing rooms and I get back into my skinny jeans and long sleeve shirt. I slip on my sweater and I go to the register. I buy the dress, and I walk home. This will be perfect for next weekend.

After I had hung the dress safely in my closet, I walk and sit down in the living room. I huddle under a blanket and I watch stupid Christmas movies until bed. I was tired. Babysitting kids and dress shopping is hard for one day. I roll on my side and I drift to sleep on the couch. Maybe I'll make friends tomorrow. Head for the Starbucks and meet some people. Maybe somebody who'll understand my past.

I wake up with the sun in my eyes. I get up and I take a shower, and I brush out my dark curls and I throw it in a braid. I wear my light blue jeans, with a knit-sweater and my good converse. I walk outside and I notice a car in the drive next door. 2012 Mustang GT. Must be the car of the guy that is never home. I smile, and I walk down the sidewalk, and all the way to the Starbucks in the strip mall. I don't have a car, or even a bike, or anything. I can't really afford it. I order myself a coffee, and I sit by the windows. I watch the countless cars roll past. Then the Mustang from next door pulls up to the curb, and a tall buy steps out. He looks nice. I try not to make it obvious that I'm watching him. He's quite shy looking too. I smile to myself, and I can't help but think if he's going to the party. I blush and I sip my coffee. He finally notices me. He smiles to himself and he walks to a booth in the back. Hmmm. What was that grin for? I blush, and I finish my coffee quickly. I head back into the snow, and I head home. I have to be back for little Kelly, her mom has work today. When I finally get back home, I clean a little and I close some of the doors. I walk outside, and I sit on the porch in my coat. Then the red mini-van pulls up, and the Mustang following. Of course the guy parks in his drive and goes inside, while Kelly's mom gets out and unbuckles the little girl. I smile. "Hello Mrs. Baks." I smile as Kelly hops out and runs up the walkway. I get up and I head for the steps. "SEATTLE! GUESS WHAT!" Kelly screeches. "What girl Spill it!!" I giggle and I kneel on the shoveled path. "I lost my tooth and the tooth faiwy came see!!!" she giggles and smiles. One of her two front teeth is gone. "Wow, That so cool. You must be rich Kelly." I smile. "I got a dowar. I got this cool bwacelet at the store den!!!" she giggles. Her mother smiles. "I'll pick her up at 3:00."

As 3:00 rolled around, I helped Kelly gather her dolls and the dresses that she had brought with her. I opened the front door and I helped the little girl get her coat on, zipping it up and helping her slip her boots on. "Bye Seattle!" she giggled. "I heard you were invited to the big Christmas party, do you need a ride?" Mrs. Baks asks as we buckle her in. "Oh I won't bother you with driving me! I can walk." I tell her. "Nah, I'm going with Harold. We just have to find Kelly a decent dress and we will be set. I'll pick you up about an hour before, how about that?" She asks. "Really?" I ask. She nods. "Okay. That sounds great. I can't Thank You enough." I smile. "It's no big deal." She smiles as she gets into the car and buckles. "Alright, I'll drop your pay off in a little bit. Bye Seattle!" she smiles. "BYE SEATTLE!!!" Kelly screams from her seat. I wave until I can't see the van. I walk back inside. Well, I won't have to worry about ruining a pair of shoes.
