Lily's POV

I couldn't believe it. Basil... He didn't hesitate to risk his life for mine. He was willing to throw away his own just so I could live.

I couldn't help but feel guilty, not only because I was the motivation for his perilous actions, but because I doubted him.

Never, have I expected him to do something so drastic in order to protect me. What caused him to think so cursorily? It was unlike him to do something without thinking twice. But this time, apparently, he engaged in battle with two S-Rank Criminals like it was nothing.

I skidded to a stop at a turn in the hall of the hospital. Fortunately I was paying attention, or else I would've ran into the wall.

Shaking my head, I ran through the hall, unceremoniously, bumping into a doctor. I didn't stop to help him up, I just shouted a curt apology.

My lack of acknowledgement for the poor man, however, didn't stop a memory that surfaced. He wasn't just any random doctor. He was the one I flipped off when I was in the Hospital after the whole ordeal with the Sand and Sound. I was out for a while, and Basil sat willingly beside me the whole time. He refused to leave, and barely slept. Even when they imformed him that I was fine, and it was merely from exhaustion.

I slammed his hospital door open, to see him sitting down on his bed. The covers were over his legs, and he was slouching. Something that Basil never does. He was always stiff, and his face was clean from all emotions. At the moment he seemed drained, dark circles were around his eyes, and he didn't even look up at me.

"Why?!" I demanded, ignoring whoever was out in the hall. "Why did you.... Y-You could've ended up dead!"

Basil slowly looked up at me, but he was barely able to even blink at the moment. "I-I care about you too much to lose you! I don't need you out there putting your life on the line for me!"

I clenched my fist, and I wasn't able to hold my tears for any longer. Just the thougth of him not breathing....

"Y-You could've... died." My voice became more soft and shaky. "I could've lost you forever. We could've lost eachother. I-I just found you... So why the hell did you have to go and almost get yourself killed?!"

"To me.... Between my life and yours... My life is meaningless..." I stepped closer to him, I kept going until my arms were wrapped around his shoulders. "So.... Why the hell would you try to protect me?"

His shaky arms wrapped around me and he mumbled,"You have no idea..."

I stayed silent, at that moment nothing, not even death, could make me let him go. He continued, just barely above a whisper. ".... L-Lily.... You've given me an opportuntiny to figth for someone other than myself."

My eyes widen, causing more tears to spill. I gritted my teeth, the only thing keeping me from full out crying."Your life.... You are my sister.... I love you.." It was all that he could really get out in his state but it was enough.

His voice was weak, but his words were strong and sincere.

*******

It was late at night, and I just sat in a chair beside Basil, watching him sleep. "Lily, you need to get some rest... He would want you to." Sakura's concerned voice said.

"He didn't get sleep when he was watching over me... So, I guess we both didn't get what we wanted." I shrugged, and let out an involuntary yawn.

"Atleast ice that bruise on your face..." She worried. I sighed, but I still obliged. We were both equally stressed about Sasuke.

He was acting different even before Itachi arrived, but now.... Things are inevitably going to change, and we both knew it. But I couldn't add to her stress, since she was also worried about my condition. Kisame, must've really enjoyed thrashing me around... That psychopathic jerk!

Sakura entered the room again with an ice pack in her hand. She also held a blanket. I took the ice pack, and reluctantly grabbed the blanket. "You need to get some rest as well." I said firmly.

"I'm working." She smiled softly, with her calm green eyes that made me want to fall asleep. Was she hypnotizing me? I internally facepalmed, what kind of stupid question was that? Am I really that tired? "It's going to be okay, Lily."

I merely nodded, having nothing to say for the matter.

I don't know why she bothered telling me that. Maybe to ease my worries? Or for her own self-reassurance? Whatever the reason, her words were empty. Any statement assuming that things will turn out fine were nothing but a lie that was miserably failing at blanketing reality.

Fun Fact Of The Chapter

Believe it or not, Legacy Of A Flower was never even supposed to be published. One night I just grasped a bunch of ideas, and I ended up writing a prologue just for fun. You know, to look back as I wrote more chapters. But then I realized that this whole idea wasn't too bad, so I published it.

At first I was making it up as I went, but as I got more into it, an actual plot built up, and I was able to invision different scenes. A few of those scenes met my keyboard, and then the eyes of many readers. Now I have alot planned out for Lily.... There's still many things for you guys to read, and many characters to meet.

There will be two more important, and special charcters that you will meet. Both in the Yoshida Clan. One being Lily's father, the other being a special little girl....

I didn't expected this story to go this far, and so now this whole creation will meet up to a trioligy! Who knows what else...
