I Never Would Have Guessed

Chapter 5: Seeing for the first time

Zara's PVO ~

I stare out the car window, waiting for Rin's interview to be over.

I untie my Eyepatch and continue looking. My bluey purple eye looks along with me.

I could see coaltares everywhere. I could also see hop goblins causing mischief.

I continue looking. This was boring, where the hell is Rin, he should of been done ages ago.

I tie my Eyepatch back over my right eye and blink a couple of times getting rid of the demon vision.

Once my vision had reset I get out of my white car.

I walk over to the shop and see Rin grab a pink scarf. Soon a little girl comes along.
"Here you go" I hear Rin say.
I smile to myself. That's my brother.

I walk towards them but stop. The little girl looks scared. I pull my Eyepatch down and see a small hop goblin pulling the scarf downwards.
Should I grab my gun?
No. There are way to many people here and I might shoot Rin or the girl.

Rin looks at the scarf and gasps.

Did he see the goblin ? No he couldn't have, Shiro had Rin's demonic power sealed away.
It's not supposed to be possible.

I run towards Rin but the goblin was carrying the scarf into the shop.

He ran after it.

He was always faster than me but maybe I could catch him.

The little girl ran after me. I rip off my Eyepatch but kept it locked in my hand.
Rin bashes into cans and boxes. Even though he was faster than him, I had better reflexes.

The little girl that was behind me disappeared down one of the isles.

I continue running the little girl stood in front of the goblin. But the goblin jumped over her. Causing the cans behind her to collapse.

I continue chasing the goblin, but Rin ran to protect the girl. " Yui !" I hear someone scream behind me.

I chase the goblin and pull out a single silver holy bullet and roll it along the ground. The hop goblin stares at it then I grab it and try to get out my holy water canister.

Luckily everyone was looking over at 'Yui and were to distracted to notice me.

I pour holy water all over the trouble maker and he disappears.

I sigh and head over to Rin who was getting yelled at by a large woman with bright orange hair and glasses.

Rin, after 5 minutes walks over to me and sighs.

"She said she couldn't have a troubling menace running around her store." He informed me.

I sigh and pat him on the shoulder.

"Hey. Whats up with your eye?" He asked. I blink then cover my right eye regretting letting him see it.

How could I be so dumb.

I tie my Eyepatch back on and smile a half hearted smile and begin walking back to my car.

I could hear Rin sigh and follow me.

"Hey, before we go back can we go to the old park." I look back at him and smile. "Sure" I respond and we get in the car.

"Did you see it?" Rin asks me. I look at him blankly.

I had practiced this many times before and it worked a lot of the time.

"What do you mean ?" I say my practiced line questionablely.
He looked at me with a confused face and I tilted me head slightly to the left.

This must have completed my innocent look, because Rin looked away smiling.

"So you didn't see that small guy with a face like a monkey?"

I shook my head still lying and stopped the car.

We hopped out and walked towards the swing, I hadn't been here since I was little. It was good bringing back old memories.

Rin and I sat down on the old swings, "so you got the job then you got fired!" I ask already knowing the answer.

"Yea. Sucks doesn't it?" He responded and I nod.

I look at the bark chips and frown. I hate lying to my brother but it's the only way to protect him.

Yukio's PVO ~

They should be back by now.

As I walk outside I take out my phone and ring Zara.

It rings three times then her sweet familiar voice can be heard.

"Hello ?" She spoke through the phone.

"Hey it's me. Where are you. Dinner is getting cold and it's Rin's favorite." Sukiyaki. Rin always loved meat.

"Oh okay we'll be back in a couple of minutes." She replied and hung up.

I wonder if something happened?

Zara's PVO ~

I hang up and look at Yukio's caller ID. It was a photo I took when I was 16 he was 12 and he was eating Icecream. It was spread across his mouth and I got a photo. It's been his caller ID since that day.

I close my phone and head back to the swing.

"Who was that ?" Rin asked
"Yukio, he said we have to head back. And he said that your favorite was for dinner." I respond.

Rin's ears prick up and his mouth started watering.

I smile and head towards the car. He follows me and heads in the car.

We drive home.
We stayed mostly silent until we got back to the monastery.

As we hopped out of my white car I can see the small girl from early stand next to a tall man with mud brown hair and eyes.

"Are you Rin Okumura?" He asks as he looks at Rin.
And Rin looks at me, I smile and he turns back to the man.
"Yeah" he responds.
The man sighs and begins thanking him and saying that 'Yui' was always a scatterbrained child.

How I wanted to slap his face.

"No, it's not that she's scatterbrained. She's being picked on " Rin intervenes.
I raise my left eyebrow and I could see Shiro do the same thing.
"What did he look like?" The man asked.
Rin looked down at the ground.
"He was small and had a face like a monkey.." Rin states but stops as the man starts walking off. "Where are you going?" I call out.

"I'm going to school to see who's been bullying my daughter."

I stare at Shiro and looks at back at me.

I don't really pay attention.
I was thinking about how Rin saw that goblin.

I must been thinking for a long time because Father Fugimoto called me inside.

I go up to my room and flop on to my old bed. It hadn't changed much. I rolled onto my back and looked at the ceiling. I took off my Eyepatch and close my eyes.

And fall asleep
