We climbed up the steep hill of The Mountain till we got to the top. It was tiring, especially when I was tired from staying up all night. It was almost dawn, which meant that the sunrise would happen any time now. We sat next to each other on the grassy hilltop, facing northeast since it was logically where the sun would rise from.
"Elina?" Harry said, wrapping his arm around me. He then started to rub my arm.
"Hmm?" I said, not looking at him but the sunrise that was beginning to occur. This reminded me of my sister and me. But we wouldn't come here. We'd go on top of our family's beach house. It was about thirty minutes out of Newedge. It was beautiful, probably as much as it was right now.
"If we became more than friends and I helped you check off number three and four off your list, would you let me?" He asked, taking a strand of my hair and tucking it behind my ear. My eyes widened with fear and...excitement? Why am I excited? He wouldn't date me, now would he? And besides, I wouldn't make a good girlfriend.
Either yes or no, what should I say? A boy had never asked me this question. Probably because no one but Harry and I saw my list of pointless things.
"Why are you asking this?" I asked. I did want to know why he was asking this. We both sat in silence and stared at the sunrise. I probably shouldn't have asked that question. It'll probably go awkward. What if he doesn't want to be my friend anymore--I'm overthinking!
"Because I want to, El." He said.
My eyes widened as my hand went over my mouth, and I looked right up at him. "Why? Why do you want to?" I asked, curious and maybe a little scared as to what his intentions were. Is he trying to tell me something? If so, I need to know because I won't stop until I... I find out.
"El, the minute I laid eyes on you on the very first day of school, I finally knew what it was like to fall in love. And throughout the whole school year, I've been wanting to talk to you but I was just so shy-" He stopped as if he was interrupted by a sudden noise. I was afraid that he wasn't interrupted. He realized of what he just said.
I laughed suddenly. "Harry Styles, scared to talk to a normal seventeen year old girl?" I teased.
He pouted and let out a smile. He got up on his feet and pulled me softly by my forearm and led us to the bush. He released my arm and started observing the area we were in. The smell of nature, so beautiful, so pure.
"I came here a couple of times with my sister, Gemma. We would play hide 'n' seek all day long until it got dark. And I was hoping if you're willing to do that with me." Harry deeply looked at me in the eyes and smiled, a hopeful one.
Slightly nodding my head, hoping he wouldn't see it, I smiled. "Harry, what about we just go and watch the sunrise? Or even better, why don't we just go home and sleep? I am getting pretty tired." I suggested.
Harry sighed and nodded. "Okay. Just so you know, it's a long way down."
I giggled and down we went. I ran down the hill, most of the way anyway. Harry walked calmly last time I checked. I looked back to see where he was at.
"You walk so slow!" I shouted.
I could just see him smiling. "You run so fast!" He said, beginning to run down. I laughed and continued to run.
*
"HARRY, STOP IT! I'm lazy!" I shouted as I ran away from him down the sidewalk. It was partly funny because I felt as though I was running for my life.
"You're free to stop any time!" Harry shouted back, his voice sounding restraint because of the laughter he was obviously holding in. That was until he let it out.
