::ROSES AND SPOTS::
.::CHAPTER ONE::.
I can't believe they were stationing me here.
I went to this school two years ago; sure I changed, but did I really change enough that my old friends, my old boyfriends, my old teachers, anyone else who knew me- that they wouldn't recognize me for who I was? I shook my hair out around my face, making it cover my ever changing eyes.
"Evengarde," she purred in my ear. "Evengarde," she repeated, "you're going because you know it, it is as if it is your den, you will already be adapted to it, in case they turn on you and you're forced to fight."
I hated her. She always called me that; 'Evengarde'. That wasn't even my name. My name is Lilac; at least, that's what it is now. I am- well, was- Lynette. I also was human. Very past tense. I was sixteen, the standard age for when the magic starts to run through your veins and if you didn't know already- the witches come and whisk you away. And by away, I mean away away. There is no going back, there is no visiting your mommy and daddy again, once your blood is mixed with the magic, even if it's lesser magic- you are dead to your old friends and family.
I'm guessing I lost you at 'magic', right? Yeah, well, magic isn't some sort of fluff that magicians try to pull on you; magic is a substance that resides in every person, and is only released on their sixteenth birthday- but only if it releases. For most people, it remains dormant, making them what you'd call 'human'. But sometimes, it will release a little tiny bit of itself, resulting in psychics that have occasional premonitions, or sometimes resulting in mediums.
The things it can make are the bad part. For me, I'm a complete freak. I'm a hybrid, meaning I'm not just one branch of magic, I'm two. Oh yeah, the branches. There are three basic branches, the rose, the lily, and the dahlia. The rose stood for the wytches; which is just one half of what I am. The lily stands for the ever transforming shape shifters; my other half. I'm a wytch and a wereleopard, so therefore, not many 'pures' like me that much. Joy, joy, joy. The dahlia, the deadliest of them all, is for the vampyres. No one, and I mean no one, likes the vampires. They aren't the sparkley 'vegetarian' vamps you'd think of; no, they are blood thirsty, ugly whores of the underworld.
"Evengarde," she said, growing impatient. "Hurry up, you must be ready for school," she giggled. She was so happy, all because she gets to play the role of my mother. Eww. If she really was my mother, I'd definitely be better off dead, or a vampyre. Sure, she's beautiful; but what wytch isn't?
Wytches are beautiful by nature, and deadly by choice. You see, it goes like this. At sixteen, when the magic enters a person's blood stream and determines itself as wytchblood, it immediately starts to physically change that person. When you turn into a wytch, you literally look perfect. You will become one of the most beautiful people around, and you can't stop nor change it. It's a good part of it, I guess. Unless you really like being average or ugly. Your hair and nails grow extra fast, though- which is good and bad, it depends on how you see it. One really weird thing is, though, you will have no body hair at all, but you still have you know, the normal hair you think of, the stuff on your head, eyebrows, and eyelashes, but the rest.... There's nothing. That's convenient, no shaving. And then there's the glamour. Glamour is where you can create something like a disguise over something, it looks real, feels real, tastes real, even- but it isn't. You can't hurt a person with it, well, not directly.
"If only Claude could give me a child like you," Ruby muttered, stroking my cheek. "I'd have named you Evengarde, instead of a hideous name like Lilac," she sneered.
Yeah, my names the hideous one, you ungreatful whore... "Evengarde is a beautiful name," I said, forcing a smile as I walked up to the bathroom. I muttered something under my breath, just low enough so she wouldn't hear, and I slammed the door behind me and stood in front of the mirror, gripping the bathroom counter in my hands until my knuckles were white. "There is no fucking way I'm lasting here for more than a week," I muttered, glaring at my own reflection.
I hated myself. I didn't deny it. My pale blonde hair, so close to white; ruined by the leopard spots that came with being a werebeast. See, when you get the whole werebeast deal, your appearance is affected by it. For me, I got the sliver like pupils, leopard spotted hair, and rather sharp nails. I blinked away a few tears, cursed my emotions, and applied my make up. I tried to match what I was wearing; a blue and black lace corset over a black tee shirt and a pair of black skinny jeans with black extra extra high top converse. My chest bulged out; being a wytch too me a few sizes bigger than what I was used to, sadly. I ruffled my hair, willing it to change to a dark auburn. It did, thankfully. With me, glamour sometimes doesn't take. It'll decide to be a lame wad and just stay with whatever it is. So I just don't depend on it that much.
"Evengarde, hurry up!" Ruby called up the stairs, her shrill yet husky voice echoing against the bathroom walls.
I ignored her and continued to apply my make up. I knew one thing, if there's one way to keep out of the 'popular' groups- which is exactly what I wanted to do- it was be an emo, scene, or goth chick. I've got that down. I've always liked the darker clothes, the darker look. It's always been so... tantalizing.
Brushing a hand through my hair, I took a deep breath and let my pupils dilate until they became fully rounded, like that of a human eye. Time to go to hell. I picked up my bag, slung it over my shoulder, and turned on my brand new cell phone. It was black, had a full keyboard, and I could work it. Damn was I good with machines; it was what my kind calls a 'gift'. Each wytch, or any supernatural creature in that case, gets one. Basically, it's an ability you get when you're changed, and supposedly they're unique to the individual; no one having the same one, snowflakes and all that.
"Evengarde!" Ruby shouted, her voice starting to give me a headache now.
"I'm coming," I said, walking down the stairs as slow as possible. School, fun. At least I'm not going to be a freshmen; that's a good thing. I'd hate to be lame enough to be in that grade.
My car, oh god I loved cars. You know how I'm good with machines? I'm the best with cars. My car, a 2008 Shelby Mustang, was a beaute. Totally Hello Officer red; she was my baby. I slipped in, resting my book bag in the passenger seat and started the engine into a roar of life. The radio blared a piece by Coconut Records, and I turned that up, reflecting my inner teenage rebellion. I backed out of the driveway, flipped Ruby off, and drove out of her sight before she knew what I had done.
