I tapped my fingers against the steering wheel, nervous. I was going to make things right with the enticing blonde with green orbs for eyes, and I was going to start today.

By asking her out.

Not in a romantic way--God, Luci would probably walk away from me for forever if I did that. But as friends.

Maybe we could continue that stupid twenty questions game.

I smiled, fingers tapping faster. I moved to turn up the radio before relaxing back into place.

I'd decided to take the main road to Quart's General Store, not quite in the mood for the lazy and slow back roads I normally drove down. I needed to get there as quickly as possible today. But the main route was a boring, straight shot from one place to another.

So I people watched.

Glancing into the front windows of cars passing provided some entertainment as I drove the long stretch of road.

Ten minutes into my game, fifteen minutes from arriving at the general store, I caught sight of a beat up green car. A girl was driving, a baseball cap pulled over her blonde hair, and her phone blocking her face as she spoke into it. Boxes occupied the passenger seat and I chuckled.

College chick.

I was glad to be done with all of that, having completed my last year. Suddenly, a thought hit me.

Was Luci attending college?

I pulled into the parking lot of the general store, quickly cutting the engine. Nerves made my hands shake, and I itched to rip my hat off and shake my hair out.

But I shoved them into my pockets instead.

Hearing the bell tinkle as I opened the door, I looked around the store, starting first at the checkout counter, and then letting my gaze drift to the icecream.

No sign of Luci.

Frowning, I slowly walked up to the checkout. A brunette head popped up from behind, and a pretty smile greeted me.

This must be Luci's sister.

She was pretty, that I could agree with--hell, maybe even gorgeous. But looking at her now, I realized something.

She was nearly as beautiful as Luci. Heck, she couldn't even compare.

She blinked at me. "Can I help you with something?"

I shifted feet. "Yea. I'm looking for Luci."

The brunette's smile faltered, her eyes dimming. "Are you a friend?" She asked.

"Yea." Sorta.

The girl shook her head, smile now completely gone. "I'm sorry. You just missed her."

What?

"Wait, what do you mean?" I snapped, a slight panic settling.

"She just left a while ago for Massachusetts. She's probably long gone by now."

"
