Chapter 9: The Violinist
Ethan's POV
Kenneth Taira. He was one of Ayla's friends back in elementary school, one of the seniors who shielded her from all the bullies. Well, he didn't look half bad, but what was with the dazzling smile Ayla was giving him? I narrowed my eyes at them. I could also sense a bit of irritation coming from Dimtri's direction, but nonetheless, Ellerwyns are different from human beings like us. They don't hold grudges, nor do they make enemies."Long time no see, Vyler!" I heard Levira say.
"Yeah! Greetings to you, Levira!" He looked to Dimtri. "And you are...?"
"Hi, I'm Dimtri. You play the violin?" A grin spread across his face.
"Yep. You wanna hear some songs?" Dimtri and Levira both nodded their heads, eyes sparkling with anticipation. I smirked when Vyler started to play something that I couldn't even hear. My attention returned to the more important one at hand.
"He's also a Library Seirune?" Kenneth's voice was filled with surprise. "I thought your kind were rare?"
"We are rare. So far, he's the only one I've met," Ayla said cheerfully. I grunted. It would be so much greater if she was happy because of the fact that I was the one she met and not some other guys.
"So... Are you guys together? As in, dating?" he asked cautiously, a slight frown creasing his forehead.
I was just about to say yes, but Ayla beat me to it, "What? Of course not." She gave a nervous laugh.
I rolled my eyes after seeing Kenneth's face brighten up. "Hey, you there. Kenneth is it? You're a waiter here?"
"Yeah, I'm working part-time."
"Aren't you suppose to be working?"
His eyes widened. "Oh right! Sorry, Ayla. I'll catch up with you later. How about half an hour from now, when my shift is over?"
"Oh, sure, no problem." Ayla nodded and returned to her seat.
Just then, I felt my phone vibrate. I took it out of my pocket and looked at who the dialer was. Perfect timing. I smiled and answered the phone. "Hello? Galvin?"
"Where are you guys? Are you guys coming back to the chalet soon? We thought we should have another birthday party for Ayla."
"Hold on." I covered the receiver. "Ayla, the four of them want us back to the chalet."
She raised an eyebrow then told me to hand her the phone. I complied. "Hello? Galvin? Is it possible for you to come over to a restaurant called 'Western Delights'?" What? I resisted myself from wanting to grab the phone back. "Yeah, the one across the street, just a few shops away from the supermarket. Yeah. Okay. See you." She clicked the phone off and sighed contentedly. She gestured to the food in front of me, and we continued eating.
"Do you like Kenneth?" I blurted.
"What? No. I like him as a friend is all."
I scrutinised her features. Well, she didn't seem as though she was lying. Or did she? "Then why is it that you could actually bring yourself to hug another guy? Other people may view it as you like him. Don't you care?"
"Oh, really? I didn't realise. I was just too happy to see him." She smiled while taking a bite off her chicken chop. If anyone were to see her right now, it would seem as though she wasn't even sick at all earlier that day.
The four of them arrived after a short while.
"What are you doing out of bed, Ayla?" Belinda scowled.
