Rain rattled on the roofs of the Twolegplace and batted at a ginger tom’s pelt. He was exhausted after a long journey, his pelt completely drenched. Several cats followed behind him as fast as they could, but despite their feeble efforts they just fell behind.
“A vengeance that was wanted to be casted, from generation to generation, will finally come,” the cat murmured as he looked into the dark sky. “At least they will pay dearly.” He crept along the side of a fence before crossing a path.
He stopped once he was under a tree, the leaves stopping most of the rain from spilling through. A cream-and-brown she-cat’s eyes were full of uncertainty as she stared at the ginger tom. “Do you really think we should seek revenge? They might be stronger than all of us.”
“Nothing is stronger than our Clan,” the ginger cat replied. “What they did to our ancestors will make them pay. They must be wiped out so we can restore our ancestor’s pride to the forest.”
“We mustn’t plan an attack straight away,” a black-and-white tom pointed out. “We’re much to tired and weak to fight, Sharpstar. StarClan could agree with me on that.” Sharpstar gave a nod in understanding.
“Very well,” he replied. “We will recover before setting an attack. I believe the nearest Clan to here is ThunderClan. That is what it’s called, right?”
“Didn’t you get told it was ‘TigerClan’ now?” the cream-and-brown she-cat questioned. “A cat from StarClan told you that, I can recall you saying.”
“Of course, Leafdapple, but they will not be addressed by this ‘TigerClan’ they call themselves. Our ancestors would not have wanted that,” Sharpstar answered his deputy’s question. He stared up at the night sky. Skywatcher would want this. I will make SkyClan’s ancestors proud of the fact we got the revenge they’d have wanted. My Clan will have no shame, present or past.
“What about the queens and elders?” a pale grey she-cat with two kits by her side asked. “Surely you’re not going to send us into battle? Who would then protect our kits?”
“I’ve decided you will not battle,” Sharpstar answered. “It’s too risky for queens and elders. Let the warriors do all the fighting. That’s what warriors were meant for, Petalnose.” Petalnose gave a nod.
“I don’t think we should be attacking the Clans,” Leafdapple sighed. “It’s dangerous. We’ve barely had any battle experience with anything but rats. Shouldn’t we. . . practise a bit more?”
“Are you trying to suggest we head back to the gorge?” Sharpstar questioned. “Leafdapple, it would be a waste of our time to return home. Look at the territory we could have! It would be better than in the gorge and we can thrive more better! Who agrees we should have a better territory?”
“Maybe we shouldn’t be driven to greed,” a silver tabby murmured.
“What are you trying to tell me, Echosong?” Sharpstar questioned as he stared at the medicine cat.
“StarClan might not have asked for us to be causing a war with the Clans,” Echosong went on as she stared back at her leader. “I think they’d have more cats than us. I wouldn’t like to see any SkyClan cats dying in this battle.”
“Warriors die,” Sharpstar spat. “That’s part of life for them. They were born to die for their Clan. I wouldn’t expect such a medicine cat to understand a warriors’ life.” Though Sharpstar has proven to be a good leader, his sharp mouth often stirred up an argument. Echosong did not bother to argue with her leader.
“Of course it is,” Echosong answered. “It’s just that sometimes fighting is not necessary. But if you want to cause one, I cannot stop you from doing what you wish. Overall I want you to know what’s best for SkyClan.”
“We should earn the Clans’ trust first,” Shrewtooth suggested. Though he was known as SkyClan’s most nervous and easy to scare cat, he often had good ideas to share.
“Yes, that’s a good idea,” Sharpstar replied with approval. “Good thinking there, Shrewtooth.” Shrewtooth fell back behind his Clanmates slightly at his leader’s approval. “I will clarify that we will go to a Clan and get their trust. But first I want some deaths to be pointed towards the Clan – not SkyClan – to itself.”
“Of course, that’s a good idea!” Patchfoot meowed. “Getting the Clan blamed for our murders will make the Clan seem like they’re the traitors and we’re innocent. Then we’ll plan an ambush on them when they least expect it!”
“Exactly,” Sharpstar meowed. “That’s all of our plan thought out. Now we must rest, my warriors, and soon we will strike like an eagle striking out of nowhere.”
