Hawkfrost let out a yawn, stretching as he stood on his nest. He had recently been made a warrior along side Brambleclaw, his half brother, and his warrior duties were quite hard. But Hawkfrost could handle it without giving in like an apprentice.
“Wake up,” he said to Brambleclaw as he nudged the sleeping dark tabby awake. Brambleclaw blinked and then got up. “We’ve slept in. I don’t think Tigerstar will be too pleased about us.”
“Mouse dung!” Brambleclaw spat. “I’m supposed to be on a patrol at RiverClan’s border!” Hawkfrost watched as Brambleclaw began to trot swiftly out of the warriors’ den. He then walked out of it himself, staring around the camp. Another good day.
Mothpaw’s and Tawnypaw’s pelts were seen with Stormpaw, who was flipping a vole into the air and catching it in his jaws. Show off. Why would Tawnypaw and Mothpaw be around a half-Clan cat? Mothpaw and Tawnypaw had to do extra training before they were made warriors. Mothpaw’s lack in interest would most likely make her wait longer.
“Why are you with this piece of fox-dung?” Hawkfrost questioned his kin as he stood by them. Tawnypaw and Mothpaw blinked and then looked at Stormpaw. “And Stormpaw, kits know not to play with their prey. You’re setting a bad example onto Spiderkit and Shrewkit.”
“Sorry, Hawkpaw,” Stormpaw replied. Annoyance prickled at Hawkfrost’s pelt at being addressed by his apprentice name. He was tempted to claw Stormpaw’s ears off but stopped himself. He’s not worth clawing apart.
“It seems as though Stormkit doesn’t know how to show respect to warriors. No wonder Tigerstar is refusing to give you your warrior name,” Hawkfrost responded. “Your warrior name will most likely be Stormloud. Yes, that’s fitting. After all, you never know how to keep your mouth shut.”
“Your name should have been Hawkstupid,” Stormpaw snapped. “All you do is walk around the camp with no brain.”
“Maybe you’ll regret saying that when I --”
“Hawkfrost, just ignore Stormpaw,” Mothpaw meowed quickly. “He’s not worth it. Shouldn’t you have warrior duties to be doing, anyway?”
“Of course I do,” Hawkfrost answered. “I was just going to teach this apprentice how to behave properly.” Why is it I always want to claw some cat’s pelt off? It’s not like me to want that, Hawkfrost thought, surprised. It was as if he had another voice that told him: You’re Tigerstar’s son. Act like it and you’ll be made leader sooner. Don’t be loyal like some good little kit, Hawkfrost.
“I expect you to see to the elder’s ticks,” Hawkfrost ordered Stormpaw. “Don’t argue with me or else. I’m the warrior around here and you’re the puny ‘paw who thinks he can do anything.” Stormpaw just gave a nod while staring up at him.
Hawkfrost began to walk away from the apprentices. Those apprentices are sure annoying. Even Sorrelpaw acts like she’s still in the nursery. Rainpaw appears to be the only decent apprentice around here.
Although Rainpaw was originally given to Darkflower, Tigerstar decided to give him to Hawkfrost as “Darkflower is a bad mentor”. Rainpaw, although he could be excited easily, showed a lot determination in his training. Hawkfrost admired the apprentice’s willingness to learn.
Maybe Rainpaw could be my deputy one day. It’s not like I’m going to do what Tigerstar wants me to. Tigerstar told Hawkfrost that Brambleclaw would be his deputy. Though Hawkfrost would like Brambleclaw as a deputy, he began to think Rainpaw would make a better deputy.
“Hawkfrost!” Hawkfrost was snapped out of his thoughts by Ashfur. Hawkfrost stared at the grey warrior, wondering what he had to say. “Could you help me?”
