Chapter Four
"Alaysia!" Dax screamed. He tried to jump up, but he was restrained. Chains? He looked down at his blood stained wrists and sighed. Where is she? He thought, where am I?
His eyes began to water as the bright lights almost blinded him. He looked around, as far as he could, only seeing that he was in a completely white room, with no door. He was sat on a black, metal chair, which was quite cold, now that he was thinking about it, and he couldn't see behind him at all. Then a scent filled his nose. A scent he'd smelt before. A scent. That scent. That smell. Someone was sat behind him. I wonder if they know what's going on?
"Hello?" He asked, not even sure if they were awake or not. They were alive for sure, though; he could hear the heart beating steadily. "Hello?" He said, a little louder this time.
"Yes yes, don't get your knickers in a twist."
That voice. He'd never heard anything like it before. She wasn't from the same place he was. Then again, he'd always lived in the forest, and she was human. At least she smelt human. A human. His wolf was going crazy in his head; he just wanted to escape, but he couldn't. He couldn't risk shifting.
Dax put his arm up, before it was stopped by the chains holding him down.
"Do you mind?" The girl asked, clearly not amused, "You've been moving all night, and it's bloody painful!"
"O-oh, right. I'm sorry. I-I didn't realise..." he said, tipping his head down, "My name's Dax, by the way," he introduced himself, "What's yours?" He smiled, not that she could see it.
Silence filled the room, for what felt like an eternity.
"Kaitlin."
"I bet your face is as beautiful as your name."
Kaitlin quickly pulled the chains at his words, "Don't say that. This is no time for flirting."
Stubborn. I like it.
"We should get outta here," she stated. He guessed that she didn't want to be here with him anymore.
"Wait, we?" He said, getting a little hopeful.
"Yes. We." She replied, "We're chained together, genius," she carried on, tugging on the chains again.
"Ow!"
"That's what I thought."
Dax sighed, looking at his bleeding wrist, "What do you propose we do then?"
"Well, they, the guards, should be coming in soon to give us food. When they do, I'll knock them out, you grab the keys, and we'll unlock these handcuffs and leave."
"How long have you been thinking about this?"
"A while."
They sat in silence for about half an hour, although it like an eternity for Dax. His head began to dip as he was getting tired just sitting there. But he was wide awake when the sound of a door opening caught his attention.
To his left, a part of the wall started to fall. So that's where the door is, he thought. He watched as a guard came through the door holding a tray with food on it.
"How exactly are we meant to eat that?" Kaitlin asked the man.
"Don't ask me, I don't make up the rules, miss." He replied.
"Well, can you let us free for a few minutes to eat?"
"I'm not suppos-"
"Do you want us to starve?"
"Well, I-"
"I know you don't, give us ten minutes."
"I guess I could," the guard had a look of pure concentration on his face.
He then put the tray on the floor and let them go, putting their handcuffs on the chairs. "10 minutes," he stated before walking out.
"Plenty of time..." Kaitlin muttered to herself, although Dax could hear her with his heightened senses.
His wrists were still bleeding quite heavily, and he wondered why they hadn't healed yet. Being a wolf meant that, unless silver was involved, he could heal a lot quicker than a human. But he couldn't work out why he wasn't already healed, and those chains didn't feel like they have silver...
"Come on, we need to go." Kaitlin said, snapping him out of this thoughts. He looked at her and his heart skipped a beat. Her long, blonde hair fell perfectly around her face and shoulders, and her brown eyes stood out really nicely on her face. Her lips were full of life, and, shit! I shouldn't be thinking about that! he thought, shaking his head a little.
"Okay, let's go."
Kaitlin counted down the minutes in her head, staying against the wall the guard had come through. She watched it closely, waiting. Meanwhile, Dax was sat on his chair, holding the handcuffs in his hand.
After waiting for what felt like forever, the door began to open and Kaitlin was quick to catch the man off guard and made sure he went over to Dax, who then secured the man in the handcuffs, still attached to the chair. Then both ran out while the guard was shouting at them to come back. They flicked the switch by the door and it closed, leaving the man inside. Dax smiled at their achievement, but Kaitlin just started walking off. He tilted his head at her in confusion before catching up to her.
"What are you doing?" He asked curiously.
"We don't need to stay here. Besides, I wanna find some answers to this place. You are very welcome to leave if you wish." She stated.
"Why would I want to leave such a beautiful girl behind?" He asked, before putting his hands over his mouth.
Kaitlin stopped and glared at him before walking off again, not saying a word.
Shit.
Dax made sure to stay a few paces behind her from then on, and stayed silent.
A/N, sorry if this is a bit all over the place and a bit random. I wrote this over several days, and I'm one of those people who hates checking their own work, oops. But anyway, I hope you enjoyed this (late) chapter and I'll start the next one soonish, maybe, probably not. Sorry to keep you all waiting!
