I can't believe I'm going to be sixteen in only a couple of weeks. December 2nd. Soon I'll be able to drive, my parents will let me get a new phone, and I can move into my sister's old room! And I can't forget about my sweet sixteen party. It won't be that big, but I'll have a blast! My friends will have a ton of fun too. Just because I'm a quiet person doesn't mean I can't have an awesome party!

"Evans..."

Oh, and I can't wait to see what my parents will get me.  I'm hoping they'll pitch in money for the latest iPhone or some concert tickets.

"Evans!" Mr. Harvey erupted, interuppting my thoughts.

Realizing I had been mentally fantasizing about my birthday in front of my entire class, I slowly lifted my head up in embarrassment to look up at the nearly bald, thin old man who stood in front of the chalkboard as he crossed his arms and flashed me a look of impatience combined with anger. "How did the Gupta Empire decline in a way the Roman and Han Empire didn't?"

Scared by his tone of voice and his traumatizing death stare, I lowered my head to the ground again so all I could see was the somewhat dirty, white tiled floor and a few of my long, loose, sandy blonde curls. "Umm... an earthquake..." I mumbled quietly, still staring at the floor.

"What was that?" A muscular, but slim boy with short, dirty blonde hair said in a high-pitched voice, mockingly.

"An Earthquake..." I said a little bit louder. I knew I was wrong, and the people laughing at my answer around me confirmed that.

"Wrong. This is why you should be paying attention in this class, Leighton! Now, who knows the right answer?" Mr. Harvey shook his head looking at me as his attention suddenly shifted to that blonde boy who happened to be raising his hand and smiled at him. "Yes Alex?"

"The Gupta Empire fell because of invasion. They believed that the White Huns would not be able to cross the mountain range, but they did. They also were poor because the government raised the taxes too high. Not because of a damn earthquake." He smirked, which later evolved into a fit of contagious laughter which spread to everyone but me. I could feel my whole face warm up.

The boy named Alex turned to me. "So which ones your last name, Evans, or... Leighton?" He laughed even more.

I narrowed my eyes at him. "What's your brain size? One centimeter or one inch?"

"What a great comeback!" He exclaimed sarcastically.

"Sorry, I must've meant to refer to your dick." I smirked and turned back around.
