"Mom I hate this." I scrunched my nose as I looked down at my floral white and leggings.

"Honey, you look fine." She sighed.

"I agree." Dad responded bluntly.

"Of course you do..." I muttered under my breath loud enough for Carly to hear.

"Leighton don't."  Carly insisted. Carly was dressed in a little white dress with orange and red flowers on the top part.

"He didn't hear anything." I whispered to her. It was true, the sound of the car on a gravel road was to loud for nearly anyone but Carly with her excellent hearing to hear.

Before Carly could respond, mom chimed in.

"We're here!" She smiled.

"Mom, you know we could have just walked." I laughed. " They only live less than a minute away."

"Well, I didn't want to walk home in the darkness. We don't have any street lamps, unlike our old house."  Mom shrugged.

We got out of the car, and walked to the doorstep of a tall, dark brown house. To be honest, the house kind of scared me. But as mom rung the doorbell, a short, plump, blonde lady greeted us all with a big smile revealing her straight white teeth.

"Come on in! We are having spaghetti tonight!" She said excitedly, leading us to the kitchen.

"So I dressed up for a spaghetti dinner?" I whispered to Mom.

"Honey, we just need to look presentable." She answered and gently patted my shoulder.

The dining room was directly in front of the kitch. There were dark wooden chairs and a dark wooden table with a bright, fancy chadelier hanging from the ceiling.  On one chair was a little boy with chestnut brown hair. Then there was a boy next to him with dirty blonde hair and--

Oh god.

Just before Mom sat down, I grabbed her arm.

"So, uhh, I was thinking that just our family could, like, go to McDonald's or something. Ya know... just because Ronald McDonald is calling my name." I nervously laughed. God, I am freaking terrible at making excuses.

"Why on Earth would we go to McDonald's?!" She nearly yelled.

"We could go to iHop too if you like the breakfast menu better..." I suggested. "They have your favorite... uhh... blueberry pancakes!"

"Of course not! Just sit down for god's sake! And I hate blueberries!"

So, my excuses backfired because apparently me talking took up just the right amount of time to let everyone sit in a chair, leaving only one open that was right across from... Alex.

Very hesitantly, I took the seat.

"So these are my children, Alexander," the blonde lady said pointing to Alex, "and Jacob. Alex is sixteen, and Jacob is nine." She smiled proudly at her two boys.

What a coincidence that Alex is one year older than me and Jacob is one year older than Carly.

"These are my daughters Leighton and Carly. My oldest daughter Jessica is in college."  Mom said, introducing us as well. I was half expecting Alex to say "Oh, you must be the Leightons! Oh wait, I mean Evans..." but to my surprise, he sat there and stared at his plate throughout our entire introduction.

"I think it's safe to say we can begin eating." Todd, the blonde lady Karen's husband said, as everyone started to laugh.

This will probably be the most uncomfortable dinner party I will ever attend.
