I hadn't been at school for almost a week. The thought of having to regularly attend classes again almost as if nothing had happened made me sick.
As I made my way to my locker I could hear people talking about me. I could feel the stares on my back as I opened my locker.
The bell rang and I flinched.
I looked into my locker to grab my stats book and instead saw a letter. I grabbed the letter and opened it, but before I could read the letter it was ripped from my hands. I turned around and saw Jared Anderson standing before me holding my letter in his hands.
"A letter from a secret admirer?" He teased.
I never usually talked to Jared Anderson. He somewhat strayed away from the idea of friends and didn't have many. But he loved terrorizing everyone at school during passing period.
I reached for the letter. He moved the letter out of my reach and held it in the air. Jared was much taller than me while I stood at 5'6 and he was possibly a bit over 6 feet tall.
I continued to jump up and down trying to grab the letter from his hand while he tried to read the letter. I watched as his eyes skimmed over the paper and his facial reaction went to an immediate frown.
"Is this some sort of joke." He snapped.
I shook my head.
He slammed my locker shut and grabbed my wrist, pulling me towards the exit of the school. As soon as we were outside he gave me a look of disbelief and reread the letter. He handed me my letter and pulled one out from his back pocket that was similar to mine.
"What's your fucking issue dude?" I scoffed in disbelief.
"Did you put this in my mailbox?"
"No? Are you pulling some type of prank on me Jared because I swear I'll-"
"Amara just be quiet and read the damn letter."
I opened my letter and read it.
tick
tock
tick

my patience will soon be thinning
look for the signs
they will lead the wayI looked up at Jared before opening his letter and reading it.
Jared Anderson,
death is awful isn't it
you'd know that, wouldn't you
soon,
your role will find a way
into all of this
don't forget"How many have you received?" I asked while handing his letter back.
"This is the first, are you fucking saying there's supposed to be more of them?"
I gave him an irritated look and he looked around before walking into the parking lot.
"Jared?!" I shouted after him. He looked back at me.
"Did you know Sara?" I ask while approaching him in the middle of the parking lot.
"Not like that really. I mean we all know each other here, everyone does."
"Then why would you receive a letter?"
"Fuck if I know."
I drew a long breath and groaned in frustration.
"Look someone's probably just fucking with us don't even think about it, it's just a suck joke because the time is right."
"But that still doesn't make sense as to why you'd receive a letter."
"You think this is about Sara?"
"With the timing of Sara's death, yes. What else would it really be about."
"Amara, why don't you ask your little boyfriend. Don't ask me, this could be about anything."
"That's not of your business Jared. What about yours then, why would we both be receiving letters. It doesn't make sense, it has to be in relationship to Sara."
"Well I told you I didn't know her like that, Amara, leave me alone about it."
"We can't just be sitting ducks in case this is actually serious."
"Well it's not, like I said someone's just fucking with us. Just relax and ride it out it's not as serious as your making it seem. This type of shit happens."
"But-"
Before I could add another word in Jared walks away immediately ending the conversation. If Jared didn't want to help I guess I'll be doing things on my own.
