"Finn," called a hoarse voice. Finn ran for his life through the corn field. The sound of the pursuer right behind him. Finn was beyond terrified. Adrenalin was what kept him going.
Finn soon came to a fence. Dead end. He turned around to face the same figure that had plagued his dreams since he was 10 and his aunt went missing. "Why do you keep running from me? Am I terrifying to you? Do I scare you?" It came closer. "I am truly sorry if I do scare you."
Finn slid down the fence. "Please. Please leave me alone," he choked out between sobs. He just wanted to get some sleep without having to wake up crying or jolting awake.
"I'm sorry, but I can't do that. I have found you and I plan to keep you when you come home." Suddenly, the figure smiled and Finn could see sharp white teeth. The sight sent shivers down his spine.
Finn jolted awake, falling off the couch. He grabbed the back of his head. It had hit the side of the table when he had fell. Groaning in pain, he slowly sat up to take in his surroundings.
The T.V. was still on, showing a crime show. There were no other lights on except it. Finn guessed he had fallen asleep after he had gotten home from work for he was still in his uniform. He then noticed the blanket that had followed him to the floor.
'Mom,' Finn thought with a caring smile. Even though she was angry with him most of the time, she still cared for him.
"What was with the loud noise?" asked a sleepy voice from the hallway. Kitt stood there with her pillow in hand, rubbing her left eye.
"Nothing Kitty. Go back to bed." Finn then noticed the tear marks on her face. "You okay?"
"Yeah. Bad dream." Kitt was quiet for a moment. "Can I sleep with you?" Finn was worried for her but nodded.
"Sure." The duo made their way to his room. Finn changed into night pants and a t-shirt while Kitt got situated in the bed. The light was cut out and they snuggled together. Kitt laid her head on her brother's chest.
"I love you, Finny. Goodnight," mumbled Kitt, slowly falling asleep. Finn kissed the top of her head.
"Love you too, Kitty. Goodnight."
Finn awoke refreshed. More so than he had in a while. He checked the clock. 5:30 a.m. It was a surprise to see him awake at that time. He then noticed his sister was still slumbering on his chest.
"Kitt. Kitt, wake up. It's 5:30," Finn whispered into her ear. She stirred to look him in the face with sleepy eyes.
"Good to see you didn't have a nightmare last night," she said with a smile. Finn smiled back and nodded.
"Well, I've go to get ready for school. See ya in a bit." And with that, Kitt exited the room, careful not to trip over the dirty clothes in the floor.
Finn wondered as he got dressed. Why hadn't the nightmare plagued him last night? Was it because of his sister? Every time he thought about it more questions would pop up, so he just dropped it. At six, Kitt and Finn left the house and a shocked Mom standing in the kitchen. The dark circles were lighter and he felt better than he had in years.
Mean while....
A man sat outside of the abandoned house, drinking coffee and looking at a photo. It was of a young man with the same white blonde hair, caramel skin, and transfixing green eyes as the photo of the 10-year-old boy. "Finn," was uttered and he looked at his watch.
"Time to finish." The man walked back into the house and continued to rebuild what little the house needed to make it look nicer and better. He placed a welcome home sign on the front door and a welcome mat right in front of it.
"This will be the best welcome home party ever. Right, Deborah?" the man asked. A woman sat at the dining table, stitches going down her face and a permanent look of terror on her non-moving face. "Your son is coming home."
