Meanwhile, millions of years into the future, in present day Calgary, Alberta, a young girl was in her bedroom, under the covers reading her dinosaur book. 9-year old Annie Martha Ross, like most kids, was a dinosaur lover. She read every fact about dinosaurs and memorized each and every one. But her most favorite dinosaur was Styracosaurus.
"Styracosaurus, was a medium-sized quadruped dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 65-76 million years ago. With a broad flat face and distinctive facial adornments made up of a neck frill and horns, this dinosaur is one of the most recognizable dinosaurs today having featured heavily in books and films alongside its cousin, the Triceratops.
It was 5.5 meters long, 1.8 meters tall at the shoulders and weighed around 3 tons. Its large frill has 4-6 long, sharp spikes, hence giving the dinosaur its name "spiked lizard." Despite being ferocious-looking, Styracosaurus was a gentle herbivore, feeding on low-growing plants such as cycads, palms, possibly ferns as well as other prehistoric vegetation. Possessing a sharp beak and powerful shearing teeth, which were continuously replaced as they wore out, Styracosaurus was able to feed on tough, woody vegetation that other plant-eating dinosaurs may have struggled to eat." "Annie, go to sleep!" a voice mumbled.
Annie looked up from her dinosaur book. She saw her 10-year old brother Mark Ross standing by her doorway. "Come on, Annie! We've got school tomorrow!" Mark said. "All right, all right. I'll turn off the light." Annie said. She reached over the night table and turned off the lamp.
She then looked out the window and saw the twinkling stars in the night sky. "The stars are really beautiful." Annie said quietly. Suddenly she saw a shooting star. "Wow!" Annie gasped. She closed her eyes and quickly made a wish. "I wish I'll be able to find an entire dinosaur skeleton." Annie thought. Then she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. The "shooting star" was actually the shuttle carrying the last Styracosaurus egg.
The shuttle landed on a bush in the mountains. Meanwhile, two museum employees were driving a truck through the mountains. "Hey, what is that?" one of them asked, pointing to an object in the bush.
The other museum employee stopped the truck. The two employees approached the shuttle. "What the heck is it, Michel?" one curator asked. "I don't know, Tom." the other said.
Suddenly, the hatch opened and revealed its precious cargo. "Whoa, it's an egg!" Michel cried. "Oh, cool!" Tom said. Michel took the egg from the shuttle.
"Where did it come from?" Michel asked. "Who knows? This is very unusual." Tom said. "What are we gonna do with it?" Michel asked. "Show it to the boss. We discovered an egg in a shuttle and we don't know where it comes from. Let's take it back to the museum and examine it." Tom said.
"Okay, sure." Michel said. They hopped into the truck and headed down the mountain.
The next morning, Annie sat in her classroom, listening to her science teacher. Today was the last day at Pinewick Elementary School. Summer vacation was around the corner. Annie was very excited. When the school bell rang, everyone packed their schoolbags.
Annie walked behind the school sign and waited for her brother, Mark to come. "Hey, it's Dino Girl!" a voice sneered. Annie rolled her eyes. She turned and saw a tall girl with pink streaked blond hair standing next to her.
She was wearing a blue shirt, a hot pink miniskirt with blue tights and black high heels. Annie sighed. "Jessica." She groaned.
Jessica Romano was the leader of the cheerleading squad. She thinks she's the most popular, cutest girl in school. She is also the daughter of famed oil tycoon, Gregory Romano.
