My Dinosaur Akída

Chapter 11

"Aaaaaaaiiiiiiiiieeeeee!" Jessica screamed as the time machine flew through space and time at warp speed. "What's happening?! Where are we going?!" Lisa screamed. "Just hang on!" Annie yelled.

After a few minutes, the time machine immediately stopped and slowed. "Is everyone okay?" Dr. Harkins asked. Everyone was shaken from the sudden ride, but they were all otherwise okay. "Yeah, we're fine." Annie said. "Sorry about that. The ride at warp speed can be a bit sickening, but everyone recovers from it quickly." Dr. Harkins said.

"Okay, enough! I want to know what the heck is going on here!" Jessica screamed, getting really antsy. "Who is that old geezer?! Why did he kidnap us?! Where is he taking us?! How come you have a pet dinosaur?! Just what is going on here?!"

"Now calm down, young lady. I will explain everything from the beginning." Dr. Harkins said calmly. "My name is Dr. John Harkins. I am a scientist from the year 2145. I was the one who sent Akida's egg to your timeline. Over the years, I've watched Annie nurture and care for Akida with love and compassion."

"So you were the person who sent Akida's egg to me?" Annie asked. Dr. Harkins nodded. "In a way, yes." he said. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! So let me get this straight: You sent a dino egg into the present and Annie raised her all these years without anyone knowing?" Jessica asked. "Well, yes. That's how it happened." Dr. Harkins said.

"Ha! I stand corrected! I knew there's something so weird about you!" Jessica said, pointing at Annie. "Keeping a dinosaur as a pet all these years. What a weirdo you are!"

"Hey!" Annie said angrily. "Who said it's weird?! It's not weird at all!" "Annie." Lisa suddenly said. Annie turned to Lisa. "Uh, yeah, Lisa?" she asked nervously. "So all this time, you've kept a dinosaur as a pet and you never told anyone, not even your parents?" Lisa asked. Annie fidgeted in her spot. "Well, uh...I was...um." she said, a bit uneasily.

Then Lisa smiled. "It's okay, I'm not mad or anything." she said calmly. Annie was surprised. "Huh? You're not?" she asked. "Nope." Lisa said with a grin. "I think it's pretty cool having a dinosaur as a pet."

Annie's eyes brightened. "Really?!" she asked. "If I think so, why don't you introduce me to your prehistoric pal." Lisa said. "Sure, this is Akida. She's my favorite dinosaur, Styracosaurus." Annie said, gesturing to Akida. Akida cautiously approached Lisa. She was pretty leery of strangers after what Annie told her.

Annie smiled at her. "It's okay, Akida. Lisa's a friend of mine." she said, rubbing Akida's chin. Akida carefully approached Lisa. Lisa gently reached out and patted Akida's horn. Akida relaxed and nuzzled Lisa. "Looks like she likes you." Annie said. "She's beautiful." Lisa said.

"Yeah, she totally is." Annie said. She then turned to Dr. Harkins. "You know, I kept wondering how Akida's egg got here. Now I know how." she said. "But I don't understand one thing, Dr. Harkins. Why did you send her to me?"

"I had to. It was to protect her." Dr. Harkins said. "Protect her? From what?" Annie asked. Before Dr. Harkins could answer, there was a sudden jolt. The time machine shook violently, sending everyone down on the floor.

"Whoa! What was that?!" Mark asked. Dr. Harkins eyes widened. "Oh, no! He's here." he said in horror. "Who's here?" Annie asked. "Sloan Irving!" Dr. Harkins replied.

"Who?" Jessica asked. Then, another jolt sent everyone flying. "What's going on?!" Jessica yelled. Dr. Harkins looked out the time machine window and gasped. He saw Sloan using a big mechanic monster using its large pincers to grab the time machine rudder.

"Dr. Harkins! You know what I want! Give that dinosaur to me!" Sloan shouted. Annie, Mark, Jessica and Lisa saw Sloan through the window. "Who's that guy?" Lisa asked. Annie's eyes widened. "Hey, wait a minute! That's the same guy Mark and I bumped into earlier back in the alley!" she exclaimed.
