It was raining outside. The man was running down the road with his feet splashing their way through holes in the ground filled with rainwater. His long cape was barely touching the ground but it was already soaked with water, even if he had only been out in the rain for less than five minutes.
A car suddenly appeared in front of him, its blinding headlights hurting his eyes. The man moved away to avoid getting hit by it, murmuring something inappropriate.
He kept walking hastily, knowing that he was already late, no matter how fast he could go. And she didn't like it when he was late.
He finally arrived in front of his destination.
It was a tall, old building, which was probably abandoned like twenty years ago. It had a huge label on it, with red, bold letters reading "Public Andrew Holmes Hospital". The man had no idea why it had been abandoned. And he didn't care.
He stepped inside and breathed in the dusty air that made him cough. No matter how bad the air inside was, it always made him feel like home. He was very young when she found him and as she trained him in this building, it was the most familiar thing for him.He climbed down the stairs to the basement and then turned left to face the baby blue door which was in a terrible condition and it was only a miracle that it hadn't collapsed by now.
He opened it carefully and stepped inside the room, his cape still dripping rainwater.
And there she was.
She was staring at him with the same expressionless brown eyes, her body in a seemingly uncomfortable position. Her red dress matched the colour on her lips and her dark hair fell on one of her pointy shoulders like a sea of black waves.
She smiled. She didn't seem angry, but to be honest she never seemed to be anything.
"Thelonious." The man's name escaped her lips like a song. "It was about time you came."
The man shook his head as a way to greet her.
"Commander. I tried to be here on time, I swear. But it was raining and-"
"I know that you're doing your best Thelonious. That's why I chose you." said the woman in the red dress."But now I want you to tell me. Did you find them?"
Thelonious pressed his lips together taking a deep breath.
"Yes, my commander. But they don't seem ready yet."The woman moved towards him and placed her delicate hand on his shoulder. The wet surface of his clothes didn't seem to bother her.
"Don't worry Thelonious. They will be. We've got work to do, anyways."
