Harper~

Warm rays tickle my face coaxing my eyes to open. I groan and obey stretching against the soft bedding beneath me. Getting out of bed has never been my forte. My throat catches and my whole body tenses as my brain tries to register the sea of dove-grey floating above the tree tops surrounding me. A pink-grey orb is in its midst's flooding the land in that strange hue I thought was only a dream. My vision becomes blurry and a stray tear rolls down my cheek. I quickly brush it away, tears show weakness, don't they?

I stand up and brush down my crumpled clothes looking at my surroundings, which to be honest isn't much, as everything seems to be immersed in a stark-white fog. It casts a haunting yet peaceful hue over everything. Mist like finger creep into my pores, sending a chill down my spine. I shake myself out of my daydream and make the quick decision to explore the area. I couldn't have walked that far, I mean, sleep walking is the only explanation for my where about, right?

I skim my fingertips over the bark of each tree I pass as I try and make my way out of the forest like setting. "Crack." I jump around, arms and legs automatically forming the guard stance of my left fist in front of my body and my upside down right fist hovering over my diaphragm. Maybe the martial arts training I was forced into was helpful.

"Who's there?" My weak voice barely reaches past my ears and I shake my head, clearing my throat at the same time. I survey the tree's encircling me, trying to find the source of that ear-splitting noise. Nothing.

Relaxing my body I scowl at my stupidness, probably just some forest animal. Sighing I run a quick hand through my tangled, golden brown hair and resume walking. Straining my eyes into the pale fog, I see brighter lighting ahead. I quicken my pace, bursting into the clearing which marks the end of the forest. That's where I stop and for the second time today I feel my mouth involuntary open.

"Where am I?" I say with more force this time. The fencing, the bushland fields, the buildings in the background, they all look so familiar but, I just can't pick out where from. Creasing my forehead I rub my eyes, struggling to bring forward the memory somersaulting in the back of my mind.

"But just like all great memories as you need them, of course your stuck back there forever." I huff and cross my arms across my thin singlet, then making the split second decision to unfold them, I begin to follow the acres of second hand chicken wire and scrub, knowing it will lead me to some sort of civilisation.
