"Henry! Calm down," Grace yelled over her husband's howls. "You'll wake up other packs."
"He deliberately disobeyed my orders."
"Jaxon is young. He's bound to make mistakes."
"Yes, but-"
"No. Stop. Quit whining. Henry, you're an alpha. You know how to act. Jaxon isn't your son," Grace reasoned.
"Grace." Henry complained.
"Henry," she replied with the same whiny tone. "Let him be. You did everything for me when we met. You were whipped. So in love," Grace nuzzled him.
"I remember. I still am," Henry calmed.
"Alpha! Luna! You need to see this," Oliver, the acting beta while Shawn was gone, called. He lead them out of the Silverstone pack house. There was an injured wolf, unconscious, lying on the ground. There was a woman crying into its fur.
"Lucas! Please! Wake up," she begged. She clenched his fur. "Luke!" The wolf she was holding stirred. "Luke?" The wolf slowly transformed into a human. In its place was a shaggy haired blonde. Grace instantly recognized him.
"Lucas!" She jumped over to him and took his head from the girl's arms. She petted her fingers through his hair. "My baby!"
"Momma?"
"What's going on?" Penny and Evan were on the house porch.
"Get them back inside!" She ordered whom ever was listening. She put her attention back on the dying teen in her arms. "Who are you?" She asked the girl, not looking up.
"Ariel. I'm his mate."
"Ari?" A husky voice came from below Grace. "Mom?"
"Hi, baby," Grace cooed. "Help me get him up." Ariel took one arm and Grace took the other. The lifted him and helped the luna carry him into the house.
"Mommy? Is dat Luky?" Penny asked, her thumb still in her mouth.
"Evan, take your sister to your room. And do not come out for any reason whatsoever," she glanced back and saw the boy nod his head. She looked at Ariel. "Has he marked you?" Ariel looked at her in confusion. "And this is why a mother can do it too." Grace closed her eyes and focuses on the great this about her son. "Talk about how amazing he is. And not in bed."
"I'm still a virgin!" Ariel exclaimed in surprise.
"Just start talking."
"Well, he cares about me. He is so down to earth. He never stops the compliments. He sees the good in everyone. One time he took me to the arcade that they were shutting down. He spent over a thousand dollars there just to get them not to shut down. He cares about the environment. Lucas doesn't talk politics, knowing it causes problems. I haven't been with him long, but I know he never gives up," Ariel stroked his cheek with her thumb. "Come on Luke. Don't give up. Keep holding on." Ariel mover her hand to his and felt a squeeze. She gasped.
"Luke!" Grace rejoiced. She pulled him into a back-breaking hug.
"Mom," he whispered, out of breath. Grace released him. "I'm fine. Ariel?" He turned to the dark haired girl.
"I'm here," she nodded and held his hand. He kissed her hand and hugged her gently.
"How did you-"
"Your mom," Ariel pointed at Grace. Luke realized that his mother was shaking, due to loss of energy.
"Grace?" Henry asked holding Penny in his arms. "Why did Evan yell at me to not take Penny out of his room?"
"I'll explain later," Grace went over to pick up her daughter. She brought Penny towards Luke, who was now sitting up and sipping water. "Look. It's Luky."
"Luky!" She stretched her arms out and climbed into his lap. "Luky! Luky!" Penny giggled.
"Hey, Pen-Pen," he let her tug on his hair. "Hey dude," Evan was behind his father's legs. He stepped over to his brother.
Lucas swiftly picked up his brother. "Lucas!" Ariel squealed when Luke gasped in pain and almost dropped his brother. "Be careful," she whispered, almost too low for him to hear.
"I know," he nodded solemnly. He carefully set Even down as Ariel sat down next to him. He positioned his arm around her neck and she leaned into him, giving his body warmth that had lost in the battle for his life.
"Luke," Grace said with a smile and sad eyes. Luke returned the look.
