BRING !!!!!! BRING !!!!!!! BRING!!!!!!
My alarm clock screeches at me to get out of bed. I glance at the clock. Ugh, 5:30. I quickly turn off my alarm and dress in my clothes to go to the enrollment office. My outfit consists of a comfy shirt and some yoga pants with my trainers.
I grab my duffle and pry open my bedroom window. There is a tree which is coincidently placed under my room. I grapple onto the tree and land with a soft thud on the ground. After I pause to listen for any noises, I then continue my walk to the enlistment agency.
The agency is only a couple blocks away from my house so I reach there around 6:15. The parking lot is practically abandoned since it is so early. My hand shakingly opens the door handle as I come closer to the agency. I slowly take deep breaths as I cross over the threshold. After all these years I have finally found my ticket out of this dump. My only regret is my sweet brother that I will have to leave behind.
I slowly approach the desk at the front of the room. Behind the counter is this scary looking man in a uniform. He looks around the age of a grandfather with a firm but nice look in his eyes. Come on girl. Be brave. Do it for your brother. Do it for... The sound of the man clearing his throat pulls me out of my pep talk. I slowly lift my eyes to meet his and put on a brave face. He does not say a word to me as he slides a form under the glass divider.
I take the form and begin to fill it out as I sit in the stiff plastic chairs that occupy the waiting room. I can feel the burning feeling of the man across the room staring at me as if trying to figure out why a girl like me would ever be in a place like this. I quickly finish the last categories on the page including my age which I said was eighteen. I have always looked older than my age so I still have a chance of making it in.
I slowly stand up from the stiff chair and reapproach the front desk. I slide my form under the desk along with a fake driver's license that Finn had made for me. The man reaches for both items and goes through all of the categories of my form, occasionally glancing up. He stamps my paper with the approval seal and signs his name.
He looks up to me and grasps my forearm saying, "Welcome to the Marines."
