"Nice" Luke nodded his head, clearly impressed of the building before us.As I took a step inside it was just as cosy and homely as I remember it as a child. Our mum would take us here every weekend to have brunch with our granddad and nan, the smell of freshly baked cookies would linger in the air and send me and my brothers sprinting into the kitchen to give our nan a heartwarming hug.
The house was very spacious and spread out so there was more than enough breathing space. It was more like an old fashioned mansion than a three story house. Everything looked opulent from the gleaming wood floors covered in modern cream coloured rugs. The furnishing were old but had a natural warm vibe to them. Each aspect of the room melted into the beauty of the next. In the corner of the lounge were a set of polished wooden steps that spiralled up leading onto the second floor which consisted of the first five rooms and another set of shining wooden stairs leading onto the third floor creating a dizzy feeling inside my stomach.
To say this place was beautiful would be an understatement.
Whilst everyone explored the huge house I took the opportunity to choose my room and unpack. My feet wondered up the smooth steps and eventually stopped once I reached the third floor. When me and my brother were children I would stay in the room at the very highest of the house so I could be as far away from everyone and let my imagination and creativity explore the depths of this house. On the end of the third floor down the never ending corridor would be a large room that consisted of pastel lilac covered walls and a soft queen sized bed set in the corner. That has been my room for as long as I had stayed here whilst everyone else preferred the second floor. I let myself believe that I owned the third floor and used to demand cookies or food from my brothers whenever they wanted to play with me when we were younger.
I gently placed my hand on the rusty old door knob and forcefully twisted open until it swiftly clicked and the brown worn-down door creaked open. I took a few steps in until my feet sunk into the familiar Snow White carpet rested in between my toes. Immediately, I lunged for my bed and snuggled deeper into the sweet honey scented covers that I grew to love as a child.
This place brung back so many warm delicate childhood memories, I couldn't help but feel so broken and hurt about how much reality had changed me as a person. I went from such a well raised innocent little girl to a dangerous young woman. I'd experienced so many traumatising events such as murder only at the age of seventeen.
When did it go so wrong?
My thoughts were cut short by a knock at the door. I straightened up and masked off my true emotions only to be replaced by a fake smile. I climbed off the comfy bed and stumbled towards the door only to find Taylor smiling sheepishly.
"How are you feeling?" She questioned sincerely as she made her way towards my bed and plopped herself down where I joined her soon after.
Shrugging my shoulders I began to slowly explain to her about how much this homely feeling I hadn't felt in ages made me realise how much of a disappointment I turned out to be. I couldn't help but feel as if mum and dad would be horrified from the way I grew up to the person I grew into. Taylor listened intently and commented every now and then, letting me lift a huge weight off my shoulders.
Taylor released a sigh and gave me a sympathetic smile before embracing me into a bone crushing hug, I sat there tensed and frozen but quickly gave her a squeeze in return.
"I understand Lilly, I really do. I haven't gone through half of the things you have but I know you so so well. I mean come on twelve years of friendship pays off pretty well. You used to be such a bright girl and now your lights dimmed down so much that you're a master of disguising to your true feelings"
"Although you might not feel as if there's any trance of that warm friendly little girl inside of you somewhere I can tell you hand on heart I've seen her in you many times. You can't put yourself down like that Lilly, you're only human and you did what you had to do to help you and your brothers"
Blowing out a puff of air I clamped my eyes shut and ran both hands through my hair, "I know I do but it didn't have to be like this. I don't blame Kai at all, he was desperate, lost and broken in so many ways and once he went into that cruel world full of violence there was no turning back, same for me and Tanner"
"Yeah I agree. He's your blood, I guess you had no choice but to rely on him. I mean who else did you have to turn to?" She mumbled.
I loved that Taylor understood, it was as if she could read me just by my facial expression or she just knew. I'd be lost without her and couldn't even bare to imagine if I woke up one day and she wasn't there.
She was my other half.
After that heart to heart moment and laughing about all the old memories we shared, me and Taylor strolled downstairs to find the boys gathered around the coffee coloured 'L' shaped couch socialising with each other.
"Boys" I nodded at them in a greeting.
Kai looked up from his phone, quickly averting his eyes when they met mine. Gritting my teeth I turned towards Taylor and gestured for her to take a seat, "I'm going out to get some food, car keys?" I asked no one in particular.
Surprisingly Aaron sprung to his feet, snatching his car keys on the way before nodding towards the door, staring at him in disbelief I slowly shook my head in question.
He narrowed his earth coloured orbs and gave me a pointed look, "Are we going or what?" He barked.
Rolling my eyes I wrenched open the door and headed toward his car, the door slammed behind me and footsteps gradually grew closer and closer until a gentle warm breeze fanned my neck. Taking a deep breathe I turned to face him, raining my eyebrow in question.
"Are you going to open the door or..?"
He chuckled lightly still making no move to open the vehicle, "You really are something aren't you Lilly" He mused.
"Excuse me?"
"I've been doing some...research, and I have to say I'm impressed"
Taking a deep calm breathe I blinked up rapidly at him, "The fuck are you talking about Aaron?"
Ignoring me and continuing his obvious chatting about God knows what, "I have to say you're not like other girls I've met Lilly Prescott, you really had me fooled. Took me a while to get my head around the fact that you're more than a baiter.."
Slapping a hand to his chest I growled, "What is it Aaron?"
Smirking down at me in ways that made my blood run cold but also happened to make my stomach explode with butterflies he spoke in a smooth but sly voice,
"You should know secrets don't always stay secrets. I know what you're capable of and you're not going to like it one bit"
My face contoured into horror, "What-?"
"Heard you're well known in Columbia, remember what happened there Lilly?"
My eyes doubled in size and I clenched my fists into balls, "Watch your mouth!" I hissed.
Raising an arched brow he hummed in amusement, "Maybe you and me are much more alike than you think"
