The next day, I had woken up before Dandy did. I was currently in the dining room, having breakfast with Gloria. She was going on about how much Dandy loved cartoons and plays.
Footsteps were coming and Gloria stopped talking, stood up and smiled very wide. "Dandy, good morning sweetie." She yelled excitedly, walking over to Dandy then leading him to his chair.
"I'm done with my breakfast, Dandy. But if you'd like it I'll sit here and chat with you while you finish your's." She said while grabbing his free hand.
"No, no. It's okay mother." He gave a little smile, trying to hide the fact that he was probably really annoyed. "Mother I want go to the Freakshow tonight." Dandy demanded, staring at Gloria.
"Oh, Dandy. I don't think that's the best place to be. Why don't we go see a play tonight?" Gloria mumbled, trying to convince Dandy.
"No ! Mother I want to see the twins. I want them. I told you I wanted a freak, not her!" He yelled, motioning to me.
"But Heather is great, the freaks couldn't possibly be any better than her." I didn't know if that was a compliment or not but I was very confused.
"Mother! I want the twins! Get me the twins!" Dandy screamed and ran up to the stairs, and yelled, "I hate you mother!" And then scurried to his room.
"Gloria, if you'd like it I could take him to the Freakshow if you don't want to." I asked, walking over to Gloria.
"No, no, that's alright. I don't want him being there at all. I don't want to see those twins. They freak me out." I'm sure that's the whole point of the Freakshow, I thought.
I nodded and walked upstairs slowly to see where Dandy had gone. I saw the door of his bedroom slightly open, so I walked over to it. I heard a few sniffles and shifting of something, I took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
"What?" He yelled, he sounded like he was crying. I opened the door and popped my head in a little bit. He looked at me and turned to the other side of the room. He was lying down on his bed with his whole body just lying there, still. He was wearing a red sweater vest, and a matching dress shirt under it. "What do you want?" He snapped, obviously angry and annoyed for not getting his way.
"I..I just wanted to check on you." I admitted, I was nervous. He seemed very scary when he was mad.
"Stop pretending like you care, just so you know you won't get paid more for doing that." Dandy asserted. He wasn't like this yesterday. For a while, he was being sweet, complimenting me and holding my hands. But now he's just rude.
"I'm not pretending to care. You were really angry downstairs, I just wanted to see if you're okay." I walked over to where he was facing and sat next to him.
"Yes you are, you don't care. No one listens to me. So just leave me alone." He blurted as he started to run his fingers through his hair in an angry manner. I reached for his hands put them in mine. They were so much smaller than his. He sat up; keeping his hands in mine.
"I care. You can tell me whatever you want. I'll listen, Dandy." I whispered, he looked at me, his eyes were red but his irises still looked bright. He smiled a little, with his long hair in his face. His lips were red and plump. He looked exhausted.
"No one cares. No one listens to me. Mother doesn't care. Everyone mother hired quit within the first two days. I have no friends. I scare everyone off." He whimpered and put his head in the corner of my neck and wrapped his hands around my waist, crying into my shoulder. I felt his tears fall onto my bare shoulder. I put my arms around his big torso and hugged him.
Dandy was just misunderstood. I felt so terrible for him, he had no one; not even his mother. All she wanted to do was give him stuff but he didn't want that. He wanted her to listen to him. That's all.
"Everyone runs off, I never feel normal. They make me feel like something is wrong me and nothing is wrong with me. I don't understand." He admitted, looking back up at me.
"I won't leave, Dandy. I promise." I stroked his cheek. He sighed and smiled, closing his eyes and lying down back onto his bed then pulling me with him. He moved his body towards mine and pressed himself against me, closing his eyes. I put my small hands on his chest and stared at his face while he had his eyes closed. He was so beautiful. Despite how much of a jerk he could be, he was sweet and had a big heart. No one knew that. I felt so bad for him. He was just upset that no one understood. He wasn't crazy. We stayed in the same bed for a while. At times he would put himself against me or kiss my shoulder.
His touch made me tremble. He was gentle. This was the first time he didn't stop being nice. His touch was genuine.
