My biggest regret [ON HOLD]

Chapter 1: long night

It was Christmas night me and mom and dad and my older brother. We all were drinking egg nog and opening the last of our presents.

Mom said "alright scarlet and Jake you all need to get ready for bed we have church tomorrow."

Mom and dad kisses me and Jake on the forehead before we head to our room and went fast asleep.

TAP TAP TAP something taped on my window. I looked at my alarm clock 3:00 am. I sigh because of how early it is. I try to go back asleep but the taping sound is keeping me awake. I get out of my bed with my stuffed teddy bear. I walk into the hallway to jakes bedroom.

I KNOCK on the door. The door opens up and I see a very sleepy Jake at the door. As he sees me.

Jake asked concerned "hey scar, you okay?"

"I couldn't fall asleep I kept hearing noises."

"Come on scar you can sleep with me."

I nod and walked passed him and climbed into the bed. He went on the other side and climbed in. I snuggled into his side as he put his arm around my waist to comfort me.

I said "I love you jakey."

"I love you to scar, I will always protect you no matter what."

He said as he kissed my forehead. I always love the safe feeling I get when he's here. I felt asleep after that.

BANG BANG BANG

I shot out of the bed made my way to the door and peaked out of the hallway to see mom and dad dead on the living room floor. Jake grabs me from behind and puts a hand over my mouth to quite me.

Jake said "hide in the closet scar, I'll be right back."

He puts me in the closet I begged him not to go but he walks out anyway.

I start hearing noises of some one being beat up. I silently climb out of the closet and peaked through the hallway and saw Jake on the ground blood coming out of his nose streaming into the hardwood floor. There are 3 guys asking him the same question over and over again. I couldn't hear at first but after I strained my ears to hear they asked

"Where is your sister scarlet at?".

"I'm not telling you that."

"If you won't tell me I'll make you."

Jake looked scared at first but masked his emotion with anger.

"Scarlet if you hear come out now IF YOU WANT YOUR BROTHER TO LIVE."

I felt my heart drop as he finished that sentence. I felt so many emotions run through me at once. I couldn't lose him after losing our parents.
I heard a count down

"3..."
"2..."
I came out into the hallway and said

"Wait, please don't kill him I'm right here."

One of the guy faces me with a evil smile on his face. As he said
"Well well well I see you came out of your hiding spot."

He signaled for the others to drop Jake. As Jake said with a tear in his eye
"Scar why did you do that, what were you thinking." 

I cried as I hugged him and said
"I'm sorry jakey I could lose you to after we lost our parents."

"I know scar, I know but still you should have stayed, I can't lose you scar your my little sister only family I have."

I hugged him as he took my hand and put a necklace in it as he said "remember me by this always know I'm with you."

We hugged tighter and started to cry at the same time like our life depended on it.

One of the men had brown hair and blue eyes and dimples. The one in the middle had blond hair and green eyes and a mole. The one on the end has black hair and brown eyes and dimples. The one in the middle talked

"Are you all done saying goodbye."

"W-what do y-you m-mean?."

"Where taking you to our boss."

Before I can say anything else he grabbed me and I started kicking the man with brown hair and said
" stop moving will you."

Jake said " please let her go take me instead."

The first guy grabbed a gun and shot Jake. I didn't see if he was still breathing. I started feeling numb as a tear slid down my face. I felt as if my whole world got turned up side down. I froze I couldn't move I was to shocked to know what just happened. My seven year old brain couldn't comprehend what just happened. The real reason is why? Why did all this happen. Why kill my parents and now brother but take me. I felt me getting carried into a van and then blacked out.
