CHAPTER 5 - What the Dead Bring Us
I slowly open my eyes, and take in the white blur clouding up my vision. I blink a few times, and slowly my lost vision returns to me. Everything is white, and clean. I'm lying in a bed, which one of the only pieces of furniture in the room besides a metal chair and a bedside table. I am in the Omega Point infirmary, and someone is sitting at the foot of my bed.
I would recognize the face of the person sitting in front of me anywhere. The face of someone I've been thinking was dead. The sharp angles of his cheekbones. The palest skin and hair I have ever seen. Those electrifying blue eyes should make every girl swoon over him, but they don't. He is thinner than the last time I saw him. The last time I saw him he was wearing a white suit. This time it still is a suit but different; like my old purple one. But this isn't a full body suit like mine, it is a shirt, made out of the same material, but the suit is still white. It shows all his muscles. He is wearing gloves.
"Brendon." I manage to say, my throat burns as I say the words. I leap into his arms, to hug him. He is taken aback. He must have not realized I was awake. His suit protects both of us from each other's abilities, so he welcomes the embrace. Even wrapping his arms around me. I am still wearing my white tank top and jeans. We pull apart.
"Well Juliette,” He says, smiling. Flashing me his unbearably white smile "It's been a while. Hasn't it?"
As soon as his words leave his mouth I remember why I'm here. How I got here. The tranquilizers. Aaron. The bombs.
"Where is he? Where is Aar...” I stop myself before his name escapes my lips. No one here knows his first name. They all know him as Warner, I must remember this. I collect myself. "Where's Warner?" I say frantically.
"Oh yea him. He woke up yesterday." He says. I stare at him, and my eyes tell him what I'm thinking where is he? "He's still being questioned. He hasn't been allowed to see you yet though, and I think it's killing him." I nod.
"How long have I been out?" I ask him.
"About two days." He explains, "The tranquilizers were only supposed to knock you guys out for twenty four hours, but they must of underestimated you size and weight." He turns away from me and stares deeply in thought at the white walls.
"Is it true?" He asks me. I don't even need to ask him about what he is talking about. The news about Aar... Warner and I is probably everything anyone is talking about here.
"Yes,” I say "Warner did not brainwash me into thinking anything or trick me in anyway. I promise." I stare into his eyes, so he knows I'm telling the truth. He nods, not asking any more questions on the subject. I silently thank him for doing so.
"Anyway, I wasn't the one who has supposingly been dead for a few weeks." I say.
"Oh yea. So Winston and I were found unconscious in a tank the same day you were taken, or you left." He explains. "We believe that they were going to take us some place closer to the capital, for questioning most likely." I nod.
"You weren't hurt or anything right?"
"Oh no. Just starving." He says. "Juliette,” He pauses thinking something over. "Winston and I weren't the only people found in the tank."
"What?" I ask.
"In the tank there were other people like us. People with abilities." There is something more to this that he isn't telling me.
