Cyrus' Fate
Chapter One
Cyrus' POV"Cy," Jacob said, shaking me. "Cyrus, you have to get up."
"No," I muttered tiredly, swatting him away. "Go away."
"You have to take Sawyer to school," he told me.
"You do it," I pulled the blanket over my head. "I'm tired."
"I have to get to work."
"Well sucks to be you. Take him to school."
"Come on," he said, annoyed. He pulled down the covers. "What do I have to do get you up?"
"Kiss my neck and tell me I'm pretty," I mumbled as I brought the blanket up around my shoulders again.
I felt the bed dip as he sat behind me, leaning over my side and using his arm to prop himself up. I glanced at him before closing my eyes again. He leaned down, kissing my neck slowly, causing me to tense.
"You're pretty," he mumbled, kissing me again.
"You're a tease," I said, pushing him away. "Fine, I'll take him to school."
He smiled victoriously. I struggled to sit up, eventually having to roll onto my side and push myself up. All the while, Jacob was laughing at me. "Oh, don't look so smug," I scowled, throwing a pillow at him.
He rolled his eyes, amused, and stood up, walking around to my side of the bed. "How do you feel this morning?" he asked, helping me get onto my feet.
"Fat," I replied. "But good, nonetheless."
"All right," he said, chuckling as he kissed my forehead. "Call me if you need anything." He headed to the bedroom door, giving me another smile. "I love you."
"Love you, too," I said as I grabbed my clothes from the dresser.
I pulled on a loose t-shirt and sweatpants, running my hand through my hair in an attempt to make myself presentable. I snuck a glance in the mirror as I ran out of the room. I've looked better but, hey, I'm tired, what can you expect?
"You ready to go, Sawyer?" I asked, grabbing the cup of hot tea Jacob had poured for me before he left.
"Yeah," he said as he picked up his bag from the floor.
"Then let's go."
I slid on my flats and ushered him to the door.
After dropping off Sawyer, I went to the store to grab a few things, then headed back to the apartment. I struggled opening the door with my bags but managed to do so after a few tries. I went inside, kicking the door closed behind me.
"Cyrus," Felix said worriedly. "you shouldn't be carrying those."
He rushed over from his place at the table and tried to take the bags from me. "I'm fine, Felix," I said, turning away from him. "I can do it myself."
"Just let me help you, ok?" he insisted.
I gave in and allowed him to take the bags. "Why can't I do anything for myself anymore?" I asked under my breath.
Felix set the bags on the counter and started putting the groceries away. "Because we don't want you to stress yourself," he said. "Now go sit down. I'll bring you breakfast."
I rolled my eyes and, to please my overprotective brother, sat down at the table. A few minutes passed before he set a plate of eggs and bacon in front of me, which I assumed he had kept warm in the oven while I was gone. "Thanks," I said and started eating.
He sat in the chair next to me. "So, do you have a name picked out yet?" he asked.
"No, not yet," I replied between fork-fulls of scrambled eggs. "We've been going back and forth between a few names but... I don't know. Nothing sounds right, you know?"
"Yeah," he said, nodding.
"Anyway," I started, a sly smile creeping onto my face. "I heard you come home last night..."
He tensed, but tried to play it off. "Oh? And?"
"And it was after one," I replied. "Where were you?"
His cheeks reddened slightly. "Just with a friend."
"Oh, yeah, a 'friend.' By any chance, was this friend Willow?"
"Cyrus..." he glared at me.
"You really like her, don't you?" I asked, though it was obvious.
Hesitantly, he nodded. "Yeah, I do. Is there something wrong with that?"
"No, of course not. It's just..." I grinned with excitement. "My little brother's falling in love."
He stood up. "I'm going... anywhere else."
"Oh, come on, Felix. I'm just teasing you. It's cute and I'm glad you've found someone that makes you so happy."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah..." He waved it away as he went into the living room, falling onto the couch and turning on the TV.
I set my plate in the sink and followed him. Trying to sit down in the recliner was awkward but I succeeded after a few minutes. I leaned back, bringing up the footrest. "Oh, I'm so tired," I complained.
"Then take a nap."
"I don't want to. I feel like I'm wasting the day if I take a nap."
"You're growing a human; that's hardly 'wasting the day.'"
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever."
"By the way," Felix started. "Willow wanted to come over for dinner, if that's ok with you?"
"Of course," I smiled. "I've been wanting to meet her."
"She's also bringing one of her friends," he continued. "He hasn't been in town very long and she wants to make him feel welcome."
"Yeah, that's fine. What's his name?"
"Peter."
