Cyrus' Fate
Chapter Eighteen
Pan's POVI knocked on the apartment door anxiously. When no one answered, I shouted. Finally, I decided that Jacob wasn't home. "Hey, what's with the shouting?" Felix asked, walking towards me from the stairs.
"I was looking for Jacob," I explained quickly. "Cyrus went into labor; she's at the hospital."
His eyes widened. "What? Why didn't she call me?"
"Oh, I don't know, maybe because she was more focused on the fact that she's about to give birth!" I snapped. "She sent me to get you guys."
His eyes narrowed. "She was with you when she went into labor?"
I hesitated. "Yeah, she was just making sure I was ok after the break-in."
He nodded, unconvinced. "Ok," he said. "I'm gonna get to the hospital; I'll call Jacob on my way."
"Would you mind if I went with you? I just... I want to make sure she's..."
"I'm sorry, but you don't know her. And she's, like, over a decade older than you, so what's your obsession with my sister?"
I took a breath. "I've known her a little longer than you actually think; we're friends."
"I know all of her friends..."
"Not true, and is this really important? I mean, she's having a baby, after all."
After a moment of consideration, he nodded and motioned for me to follow him down the stairs. "Yeah, fine, let's go."
I followed him down the stairs and down the block to his car. He slid his phone from his pocket and dialed Jacob's number before pulling away from the curb. After a minute, he frowned, left an urgent message, and hung up. "He didn't answer," he said. "I'm gonna stop by his office, but I'll drop you off at the hospital first so Cyrus isn't alone."
I nodded. "Ok."
When he stopped outside the hospital, he turned to me, narrowing his eyes. "I don't know what you're up to," he started, "but I know it's not good. Be nice to my sister, or you'll regret it."
I blinked. "Don't worry," I said. "I'd never hurt her."
I stepped out of the car and made my way to the receptionist's desk in the hospital. I asked for Cyrus's room before going up to the maternity ward and finding her room. I knocked on the door and cracked it open. "Cyrus?" I asked. "Can I come in?"
"Uh, yeah," she said.
I entered the room, closing the door quietly behind me. The bed was positioned so she could sit up. A blanket covered her legs, and her hands were rubbing the sides of her stomach. I could tell her smile was forced. "Hey," I said. "How you doing?"
"I'm ok," she said. "Where's Felix?"
"He went to get Jacob at his office," I explained. "He didn't pick up his phone, and I didn't think you'd want to be alone, so... I hope you don't mind."
She shook her head. "No, no, that's fine." She hesitated. "I'm glad you're here."
I gave a small smile as I sat in the chair beside her bed. "So, uh..." I motioned towards her. "What's going on?"
She chuckled. "Well, contractions, mostly. It could still be a while before I actually go into delivery."
I nodded slowly. "How long?"
"It just depends," she said, shrugging. "You don't have to stay the whole time, you know."
"I know."
She grimaced, taking in slow breaths.
I leaned forward, resting my hand on the bed. "Are you ok?"
Cyrus leaned her head back. "Yeah, honestly, you look worse than I do."
I pulled my hand back to my lap. "Oh, sorry..." I said. "I wasn't there when Rumple was born, so I don't really know the etiquette."
She shook her head, amused.
"So, um, do you have a name picked out yet?"
She made a face. "No," she sighed. "My daughter's gonna be born nameless. You know, when I had Sawyer, I had his name picked out six months before he was born, but this time... I don't know."
Cyrus brought her legs over the edge of the bed, and I stood up. "What are you doing?" I asked.
"I'm just going to get some ice chips," she said.
"I can get them for you."
She smiled. "No, it's just down the hall, and besides, I want to walk around. Sitting around, waiting, is going to drive me crazy."
"Oh, ok. I'll go with."
I moved towards her, and she snapped, "Oh, for God's sake, I'm not broken, Peter."
I shrunk back. "Sorry, sorry."
She let out a breath as she wobbled out of the room.
Felix's POV
I rushed into Jacob's office building and up to the fourth floor. I didn't bother knocking before pushing open the door to his office. "Jacob--" I stopped short, taking in the scene.
Jacob's eyes widened, quickly pushing himself away from the girl sitting on his desk wearing his shirt and nothing else. "Shit," he breathed.
"Oh my God," I gasped. "What the hell?"
"Felix, I swear, this... I-I don't want... You can't tell Cyrus."
"Can't tell her?" I yelled. "She's my sister! What the hell were you thinking?"
"I-I don't know, but please, it doesn't mean anything. I love Cyrus, please."
The girl raised an eyebrow. "Doesn't mean anything?"
He waved her off. "Not important right now."
She crossed her arms, jumping down from the desk and grabbing her jeans from the floor.
"If you love her, then why are you hurting her like this?" I asked, clenching my fists, breathing hard. "She'd do anything for you, and you're doing this to her?"
"No, I mean... I... She's pregnant, and I..."
"I swear to God, if you say you 'have needs.'"
"No! Well, I don't know..."
"And speaking of pregnant," I started, "Cyrus is at the hospital, giving birth to your baby, just in case you're interested in being there, but hey, finish if you want."
Jacob's face went pale. "She- she's in labor?" he asked quietly. He collapsed into his chair, covering his face with his hands. "Please, if you're gonna tell her, it can't be now, Felix. Please, don't do that to her."
"Oh, I won't," I said. "Because you're the one that did it."
~~~~~~
Heyyyy, ya girl's back! Not that anyone cares. I do feel bad about being gone so long, and then saying a couple week's ago that I'd have the chapter up soon and.... Well, didn't. Hehe, whoops. But it's here now! And I have a new arc in the plot to go off of! And I'm on spring break so I want to get up at least one more chapter before going back to school! (no promises though...)
So, it's been a rough year, not gonna lie, particularly in school. I've pretty much lost my motivation, but almost through the year, yayyy, and things are looking up. Also I started a new book, probably not a good thing considering all my other WIPs lol. But it's a murder mystery titled "Nevermore", and will eventually be posted on this account if anyone's interested in reading it. I'll post an excerpt sometime soon (maybe) if any of you wanna check it out.
Thanks for being patient. Have a blessed day.
