THE WOLF'S DEN

Chapter 3

Darkness was all I saw I was falling into a never ending abyss of darkness until I saw a very faint light and the sound of voices calling my name "Katerina" "Wake-up sweet heart" the light got brighter and the voices got louder and suddenly the room turned white and I started to see the outline of people, the room became less fuzzy and hazy and I could see clearly, I noticed I was in my room and six people stood around my bed my family along with a man the same age as my father he had on medical equipment and had a black case what I assume is full of medical equipment, I look back to my mother who leant over my bed and dabbed my head with a wet cloth I mumbled "what happened mummy?" I looked at her and she started to shhhhh me she whispered to me "it's ok sweet heart you were attacked and have been out for awhile" she started to stroke my cheek I gave her a weak smile and shut my eyes "rest sweetie your gonna need it" and then I fell into a very deep sleep. The next few days I was on bed rest and my mother didn't let me out of bed the only good thing about being on bed rest was I had breakfast brought up to me on a tray like a princess and I got to finish the embroidery on my peach coloured dress what complemented my tan sun kissed skin and my fair blond hair what I inherited from my mother and emerald green eyes from my father all my brothers were fair haired but they all got my mothers blue eyes what I envied but I still loved my eyes as they made me me. I spent a week in bed and then I started to get enough energy to get out of bed more but I only did simple things like go downstairs but never up so my brother would have to carry me up after a week I was back to myself and I was all better I wasn't dizzy anymore or felling sick in the stomach 100% better right now I was admiring the rose chain I had brought from town by the window allowing the light to catch it and making the kitchen dazzle my father and Brother Alex have been going to town instead of mother since it is not safe because of the wolf incident I don't remember much about what happened only what my mother told me I was being mauled by a wolf and as proof I have two teeth marks were the wolf's fangs have left a permanent mark at least I can tell people I survived a wolf attack I giggled at my lame attempt to make the situation better. My father arrived home earlier than he told us but when he walked inside the house he had a very nice looking envelope tucked in his jacket mother being the nosy person she is went up and hugged father but secretly grabbed the envelope as father turned around my mother ripped it open and read it when my father did notice he tapped her on the bum and took it away "why you sneaky little vixen" my mother then attacked my father in kisses I turned away red as a tomato wishing I never ever saw that it is forever imprinted into my mind,my mother took back the envelope this time and actually read it she then started to giggle like a teenager and she had a certain look in her eye the look thats means she is planning to do something sneaky I warily watched her as she turned to my and my Brother Alex and smiled like the cheshire cat from a book I read along time ago, she tucked the envelope into her bosom and said "looks like we have a ball to get ready for tomorrow evening" I started to bounce around in excitement I loved parties the food the dancing the people dressing up it was all exiting to me but Alex just groaned in annoyance "do I have to go mother I don't like it when those meddling mothers try to pair me off with their daughter I'm not ready for marriage and commitment" my mother gave him the eye "I will not have you speak that way I want Grandchildren you are the eldest you need to set an example for your siblings, you too Katerina I expect green eyed Grand babies from you" I groaned and headed upstairs to pick out the outfit for tomorrows ball I take out my most expensive gown a white off the shoulder dress with a low cut in the front what is just on the boarder of being scandalous but my mother says it draws attention to me, the bodice on the dress has old beading what I start to pick off it takes awhile but once all the thread and the beads are all removed I add a ribbon around the waist to dress it up a little since the beading was gone, I pulled off my everyday dress and folded it up and put it on my bed and started to untie the bodice just as I'm about to put it on my mother barges in holding the tourture device oh I mean corset she smiles at me and says "you must look your best" I roll my eyes as she starts to rap the corset around my body then she starts to tread it together that is my least favourite part because the more she pulls the tighter it becomes. After my dress situation was sorted my mother forced me to bath and use the new scented soaps we brought I washed my hair and got my mother to pluck my eyebrows since they looked like forrest had started to grow on my face. Right now I was sat in front of the fire between my mothers legs she she tied my hair in rags so it will be curly for tomorrows ball I was very exited all except my brothers since mother was hounding on them to find wives already and make her blond hair blue eyed Grand Children I laughed at them until she turned on me expecting the same thing then thy laughed at me, that morning I decided to spoil mother since she did so much for me so while she slept in I ran her a hot bath and put rose petals in the water I got the bath salts and herbs ready the the rags ready to tie up her hair since she was taking so long to wake up I decided to wake her up I quietly snuck into her room and nudged her awake she was grumpy at first but calmed down once she was in her bath scrubbing her feet with the salts and me tying her hair up in the end Im pretty sure she was quiet happy that I was doing this for her, and I was happy that I could do something for her since she dose so much for me. After her hair was all tied up and ready I left her to soak in the water and relax for the ball tonight since the ball was not for six hours I decided to sleep to make sure I was not tired tonight.
