"FAREWELL ADDRESS"

In the year of 1796 George Washington Gave his "Farewell Address". (http://www.ourdocuments.gov/doc.php?doc=15&page=transcript)

In his speech after resigning as President of the U.S. there were 2 things that stuck out to me.

A). He warned Americans and suggested that they stay out of all European affairs. What this means is to remain neutral and basically isolate ourselves. What's funny is Donald Trump is running for President now (in real life) and he wants to build a wall to keep the immigrants out, which kind of means to isolate ourselves, which is what Washington urged us to do. Washington didn't necessarily say build a wall, but he did say to remain neutral and that that was important. The funniest part of it all is that nobody listened back then to Washington and now several decades later someone is somewhat bringing back up the idea of isolating ourselves, which in Trump's case means build a wall to prevent immigrants.

B). He warned: "The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism." An article on CNN written by Robert Alexander stated that the first President of the United States got it right. In his farewell address, George Washington warned of the "continual mischiefs of the spirit of party" making it the "interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it." In other words, he cautioned against the dangers of political parties.

"COLD WAR"

The cold war was all about containing communism. The U.S. did everything in it's power to contain communism. From Truman's Doctrine (President Truman's 1947 promise that the U.S. would defend peoples sub version or outside pressure) to the Marshall Plan (A massive American aid program announced in 1947 to help Europeans fighting communism) the U.S did what they could.

Americans feared the "domino theory" which meant that if one country fell to communism, ione by one the others would fall like dominoes.

"CIVIL WAR"

The Civil War started because of uncompromising differences between the free and slave states over the power of the national government to prohibit slavery in the territories that had not yet become states. All you need to know is that North was free, South was slave. Basically meaning the U.S. split apart.

If you have seen the movie "Captain American Civil War"(Great movie By the way) it is clear throughout the movie that "The Avengers" have split into two groups.  That's what happened in American history except for it being a superhero union, it was a country.
