Today was the kind of day to relax on the beach which I used to do forever ago. So that's what I was doing right now.
I looked up at the darkening sky and took a deep breath. A small smile appeared on my face as I remembered times at the beach with my family.
I would always build a sand castle, and bury my feet into the sand and wait for the waves to wash over my feet.
So what I decided to do was build a sand castle. I was humming to a song when I heard a familiar voice.
"Hey Avery."
I turned around to see Adam standing there with his hands in his pockets. "Oh hey Adam, what are you doing here?"
"I went to your house so we could hand out and your aunt told me you might be here," He said sitting next to me. "A sand castle?"
"Yes. I miss being a kid and doing all this stuff," I said softly, focusing on my sand castle.
He hummed and said, "I've never built a sand castle."
My very wide eyes shot to his. "Never!?"
He shook his head with a smile on his lips, "No, never."
"Well then come on, start building it. Today is the day to be children again," I said nodding my head with a grin.
He had a resistant look on his face before he nodded and started making his. I went back to focusing on mine and it hadn't even been one minute before Adam said he was done.
I furrowed my eyebrows and turned my head to the left. I couldn't help but let out a laugh. His jaw dropped slightly as he stared at me laughing at his so called 'sand castle'.
All he had done was push the wet sand up into a pile and put a stick at the top. It was slowly falling because he didn't use any dry sand, he only used the mushy sand that the waves constantly went over.
"Adam that's not how you make one," I said still laughing slightly. He gave me a funny look.
"Stop making fun of it," He whined, "It's perfect the way it is."
It just made me laugh harder. Soon, Adam joined in. Once we were done he had an evil glint in his eyes. Before I could stop him he belly flopped on my unfinished castle.
"Adam!" I said gasping.
He starting laughing uncontrollably. So I did what I could to get revenge for the poor castle. I grabbed a handle of damp sand and threw it at him.
He stopped laughing and turned his head to look at me. "Oh it's on." I watched as he reached for the wet sand and my eyes widened.
I scrambled off the ground and went to run when I felt it hit my back. You see I was wearing a black romper and the back barely had anything on it. So you see my issue here....
(Pretend it's black unless you like it being yellow.)
I froze as I felt it sliding down my shoulder blade. I turned around to see Adam slowly backing up. I started running after him and he wasn't ready to he ended up tripping and falling. Just then a wave came in and hit him in the face.
I fell to the ground laughing so much. He got up and walked until he was right in front of me. "Ha ha, yeah it's so funny, I know."
Once I calmed down I looked up to him standing at my head looking down at me. His hair dripped water on my face.
I rolled to the left and got up. I looked up at him and met his eyes. I tried to hold it in and he noticed.
"Aw come on Avery really. Your still laughing."
I cleared my throat ending what was going to come out of my mouth. "Follow me," I said smiling at him.
I went to my car and grabbed the towel from inside. I turned around to find him right behind me. I leaned back and looked up at him in confusion.
"Uh...Adam? You good?" I asked.
He suddenly broke eye contact and shook his head. "Yeah sorry I was thinking." I handed him the towel. "Thanks Avery."
I nodded still a little confused. He backed up and drying his hair with it and then handed it back to me. I threw it back in my car.
"Well today was really fun, I'm glad you showed up," I said giving him a grin.
"I'm glad I had nothing to do today and decided to come see my new best friend, I am considered that now right?"
"Yes, your considered one of my best friends now," I said shaking my head with a grin.
"Well I gotta go, I'll see you Monday." He said going in for a hug.
I returned the hug and said, "See you Monday." He pulled away from me and turned around and walked to his truck.
I got in my car and pulled out of the small, old parking lot after Adam. Once I got home I took a shower making sure all the sand was off me. I changed into black sofe shorts and a mint green spaghetti strapped tank top.
My head hung off my bed as I layed on it thinking about earlier when I grabbed Adam the towel from my car. It had confused me to no end.
Something was in his eyes that I couldn't recognize. That stare he was giving me was very intense. I was just confusing myself with this.
I sighed and sat up. I heard a soft knock at my door and it opened a couple seconds later and there stood my aunt.
"Hey Aunt Charlie what's up?"
"There's a girl downstairs, she said her names Molly."
"Molly's here?" I muttered. I got up and walked downstairs. Sure enough Molly was standing there, waiting patiently.
"Hey Avery. Sorry to just show up, can we talk?"
"Yeah sure, come on." I said and went to my room with her right behind me.
"So when I first met you I totally thought you were trying to steal my boyfriend. Then you introduced yourself so genuinely happy even though Adam told you I was his girlfriend. So then I knew you were just his friend.....But now?" She started.
I furrowed my eyebrows.
The next thing she said stunned me. My eyes were so wide, I'm surprised my eyeballs didn't fall right out.
