Who doesn't love fan fiction? We finally got something good to do, so I decided to do mine over one of my favorite video games, Mass Effect.
Commander John Shepard was a Colonist war hero born on April 11, 2154. When Reapers attacked and nearly destroyed Earth, Shepard went to fight and gave his life in order to destroy the Reapers in 2186. Later in that year Lieutenant Commander Ashley Williams dropped from the Alliance and gave birth to Samuel Williams who is Shepard's son. Now, 2202, Samuel has been enrolled in Jon Grissom Academy. He's now sixteen.
"So you're a biotic?" "I looked up to where the voice had come from. It was a male who was sitting down next to me. He had dusty blonde hair and was mostly scrawny.
"Yea," I replied. "What about you?"
"Of course. This is a school for biotics. I was just making sure you weren't lost. I've been here for a year. It's pretty easy, for me at least. You? You're going to have problems," he stated as he glared at me.
"Why do you say that? I'm a fairly decent biotic."
"It's not the biotics that's the hard part. It's the teacher."
"Yea? Well what about him?"
"Her, Jack."
"Jack?" He looked around as if making sure no one was looking.
"Rumor has it that she was in the alliance. They say she was with Commander Shepard." He smiled at the thought. I thought back to the pictures of the crew of the SSV Normandy my mother had shown me. I tried to recall if there had been a Jack.
"Jack. Mullet ponytail and covered in tattoos?"
He looked shocked. "You know her?"
"Yea, my mom was part of his crew." I smiled as I saw I was making him jealous.
"I don't believe you. Who's your mom?" He smirked thinking he had got me.
" Lieutenant Commander Ashley Williams. Well, former Lieutenant Commander. She dropped from the Alliance right before she had me."
"That's not possible. I've done research on the whole crew. She never had a child."
"Believe what you want. I'm just stating the facts." He got up and stormed off after that remark. I didn't think he'd be coming back. I sat there for a few more minutes until someone came up to me. I looked her over and it was astonishing how young she looked. It was clear who she was with all of the tattoos covering her body and the brown hair that had been shaved except for the middle part and pulled into a ponytail. "Jack?"
"What are you doing sitting here?" she asked.
"Um," was all I could say.
"Are you enrolled in this school?"
"Um, yes." She glared at me.
"Then get up and move it. Class is starting and I called everyone already, so you're late." She turned back around before I could say anything. Well, there goes any chance at me getting along with her. I quickly shuffled after her hoping not to be too big of a disappointment.
The room we were in was fairly large. There were no desks. Thank the goddess. Did I really just think that? I've been spending too much time with Liara. She's the only crew member that was fairly good with biotics and the only reason I knew anything. I was hoping to learn more about how to use them so I could go off and help people like my mother had.
"Alright, let's get started." I looked up towards Jack and was surprised to find her standing on a table. Her teaching methods sure were weird. "Who's first?"
A girl across the room spoke up, "What is it that we are doing?"
Jack smiled a mischievous grin. "Come here and I'll show you." The girl took a step back towards the wall. "Oh come on, I'm not going to bite or at least, not hard." The girl still didn't move closer to Jack. So Jack turned to a different victim and that victim just so happened to be me. "You. What's your name?"
"Sam."
"No, your last name, what's your last name?"
"Williams."
"Williams, come here and let's show Ms. Miller how it's done." I stepped forward a little easing my way towards her. "Up you go." She used lift and glowing blue light surrounded me as I was swept off my feet. "Lift can be used to pick up your enemies or to move larger loads. Anything to add, Williams?"
"Not that I can think of other than this is very unpleasant." The class laughed.
Jack smirked. "Why don't you fire something back at me?"
"Alright." She set me down and I tried to use throw but I barely pushed her back. She laughed slightly and I tried again. This time I managed to push her all the way to the wall. She slid into it and was on the ground. "I'm sorry...I didn't mean...I'm sorry."
"Don't be. That's the most I've been pushed around in awhile. Not as strong as it could have been, but we'll work on that. So that's just a demonstration of what kinds of things we're going to learn. Get to your rooms and settle in. We'll have dinner in two hours and class tomorrow morning. You're dismissed." We all started to leave but then she added, "Not you, Williams. I wanna talk to you."
I turned around and walked back over to her. "Yes, ma'am?"
"None of that ma'am stuff. And, Williams, who are your parents? You look familiar."
"Ashley Williams."
"She had a kid?" She acted surprised. "Then how are you a biotic? She wasn't-" The realization hit her and she was shocked. "Shepard."
"Yea, Shepard and Williams."
"I knew they were close just not that close. God, you look just like him. Well, with your mother's eyes."
"I never knew him."
She couldn't hide her emotions quick enough before I had seen them. "It was rough. When he died back on Earth. I didn't know that Ashley was expecting." She waited a few minutes still letting it sink in. "Well, dinner is soon. Go get settled in." I turned around and went to find my room. It didn't take long and I started unpacking my one duffel bag. This school wasn't going to be easy. But I know now that I want to live up to my father even if I never met him. He was a hero and I was going to be one too.
