Chapter Two

Monday came too quickly for my taste. I always tried to enjoy the weekends, since I usually only had to work two or three hours a day instead of the usual eight or ten hours. I removed my apron as I waved my farewells to Uriel, one of the other coworkers that worked with me at the coffee shop. He nodded in return as he served a customer. I unlocked my bike chain from the telephone pole that it was chained up to and begin my ride home. It usually took my about a half hour to ride to and from work on my bike. Today was no different.

I arrived home about twelve and carried my bike up the two flights of stairs and into my apartment. I hopped into the shower after sending a confirmation text to Gabriel. I heard my phone buzzing as I began washing out the conditioner from my hair.

After rinsing myself off, I turned the shower off and walked into the living room where I had thrown my phone. I smiled slightly at the response.

I walked to my bedroom, pulling out my blue and white plaid flannel shirt. I pulled out a dark pair of jeans and quickly got dressed, deciding to wear my black Chuck Taylors along with my outfit. I checked myself out in the mirror for a moment before heading out the door.

I lived close to the diner where I would meet Gabriel. It was only four streets away from my apartment building. I walked in and greeted Jo, one of the young waitresses that worked there.

She seated me at a booth in the back of the place and handed me a menu. "What can I get for you today, Sam?"

"I'm actually waiting on someone, Jo. But thanks."

She nodded and placed another menu at the table. "Just give me a holler when you're friend comes along, okay?"

I smiled and nodded as she walked away back to the counter. I checked the time. I was still ten minutes early. I pulled out my phone and decided to text my brother. Dean?

I received a response almost immediately, as usual. Are you okay, Sammy?

Yeah, just waiting on Gabriel to arrive at the diner.

Good luck, Sammy! Have fun!

I smiled at the text as someone slumped in the booth in front of me. I looked up and kept the small smile on my face. "Hello, Gabriel."

He smirked. "Hiya, Sam. What's on the menu today?"

I looked down at the menu, noticing the flourish of colours that seemed to sprout up right in front of me. I seen blue, and red, and grey, and even yellow. I looked up at Gabriel, who seemed to be studying the menu intently.

"I think I'll have the turkey burger deluxe. What about you?" I asked as I put the menu down on the table.

"I'm thinking about having the triple chocolate sundae." He closed the menu and raised an eyebrow as if daring me to challenge him.

"Sweet tooth, eh?" I chuckled.

"Yes, as a matter of fact, I have one. I wasn't able to eat a lot of candy as a child, since my dad was overbearing about it." Gabriel had that challenging look still on his face.

I raised my hands in surrender. "Hey, man. It was only a question. No need for the hostility."

He rolled his eyes and I beckoned Jo back over to us. She came striding over with a polite smile on her face.

"Are you boys ready to order?"

"Yeah, I'll have the turkey burger deluxe, hold the lettuce, please."
