They say it is like living in a soap bubble when a person that loves you, takes care of you. Reality is filtered through it, before it reaches you. You end up knowing only half it, if not, less. And then, when that person leaves, when the soap bubble pops, and you fall on to the cold, hard, unforgiving floor, the reality, it suffocates you, to the point where you think that things cannot get any worse than it already is. That is the point when you'll need hope the most, and maybe, just maybe you might get through. You'll learn what life is, know how the world works, the inevitability of its cruelness. And then, one day you'll see a little ray of light and you'll want to protect it. Like an endless cycle, you'll become a soap bubble yourself, promising you'll never let go, but in the end you will leave too, like everyone else does. You'll realize that somethings are not meant to last forever.
A sweet melody played on a piano flowed through a mansion that stood miles away from civilization. It sounded soothing. Suddenly it was interrupted by the press of a wrong key.
"Adelyn it is not D for the hundredth time, it is C#" said a lady who looked like she was in her twenties. Adelyn chuckled when she said that.
"I'm sorry, it is just that C# is so close to D so I keep accidentally pressing it" replies Adelyn. The lady sighed.
"But, don't worry, you are improving" at this Adelyn grinned, even though she knew that she just said that to make her feel better, it felt good to hear it.Little Adelyn who was 12 and a half was having her piano lessons, of all the lessons she ever had, she enjoyed it much more than the others because it was given by her favorite aunt, Cateline. Adelyn was talented with the piano and Cateline could see it.
Whenever Adelyn was in a good mood her hazel eyes would have a golden hue, but today she didn't have the golden hue and seemed to be spacing out a lot. It is not like her to space out, Cate was a bit worried but waved it off. She contemplated on what to do to cheer her up a bit.
"Tell you what, let's go and get some ice-cream and we'll eat it up in the terrace". Adelyn perked up when she heard her say this. Ah! It is such an easy task to cheer up little people. They both set down on a bench on the terrace. From there, they had a beautiful view of the backyard, especially due to the fact that right behind the huge backyard was a forest and behind that were mountains. Cate decided that this was the right time to ask Adelyn why she has been so distracted.
"Adelyn, darlin', I have a feeling that something is bothering you, would you like to talk about it? I'm pretty sure it will make you feel better."
Adelyn frowned and her eyes had a distant look and as she spoke, her voice was barely audible "Nothing is bothering me." She sighed "...I was just thinking that life seems to go on the same way as it has and it is getting quite boring, don't get me wrong, Aunt Cate, I love your lessons and I will always love them. Truthfully it is the only lesson that keeps me going, but today, I don't....it is......I don't know how to explain it". There was silence.Cate had a peculiar gift with children which is not easy to define. Some people possess it, and some don't; it cannot be learned, it comes by nature. She was bright and firm and equable all at once. She both amused and influenced them. There was something about her which excited the childish imagination, and always, they felt her sympathy. Adelyn is a tractable child and very intelligent as well, but she was never quite so good with anyone as with Cate. She followed her like a little lover; she lavished upon her certain words and caresses which she gave to no one else; and coo up into her face like a happy dove, for as long as they're together. Cate laughed at these demonstrations, but secretly they pleased her very much. She loved to be loved, as all affectionate people do, but most of all to be loved by a child as she herself cannot have one.
Suddenly this great idea came to her. Knowing that because she was home schooled she had few, no scratch that, she had no friends at all, there is no reason for her not to feel lonely. Her brilliant plan was to take her to the forest, not too far, just enough to explore a little and have some much needed fun.
"I know what you're missing...a little adventure!"
