Roland watched him from a safe distance, as he did the entire night. The band was invited to some party which he had no interest in but it'd be rude to not go. But the only thing on his mind this night was that stupid, loud, obnoxious, extremely cute Curt Smith. His best friend. He realized he's been staring at him a lot more lately. What was it? What was different? He couldn't quite put his finger on it
"There you are" A soft sweet voice pulled him out of his concentration on Curt. Roland turned slightly to the right and looked down. The girl who invited them stood in front of them, Roland's known her since high school. He smiled widely at her
"You need to stop growing" He laughed softly and they hugged for a moment. She was a lot shorter than him with short blonde hair, barely touching her shoulders
"Oh, Roland. It's been too long, why don't you ever call?" She fake pouted, then smiled up at him
"Well ever since you moved, you've been so busy with everything, I didn't want to bother you" Roland scrunched his nose at her and she playfully hit him
"Come, walk with me. We have catching up to do" She grabbed Roland's arm and pulled him away from the wall he was trying to blend in with
The two walked around the large room, lightly talking back and forth. They ignored the looks they got from several people. Around 10, everyone started to leave.
"Lizzy, it's been wonderful. I look forward to next time" Roland gave her a friendly kiss on the cheek goodbye, and waved to her from the car. The entire band was in the same car, they usually traveled together like this.
"So, you and Elizabeth" Ian nudged Roland, raising his eyebrows with a small smirk forming
Roland scoffed and shook his head "We're just friends" Roland faced Ian, the two intensely staring at each other in the back seat
"You're a horrible liar, Orzabal" Manny piped up, looking at them in the rear view mirror. He was the designated driver, not having a single drop of alcohol tonight
"Shove it, Elias" Roland snapped back, rolling his eyes, then turning to look out his own window
Then it hit him. Something was wrong. Curt hasn't said a word. Roland looked at him, sitting next to Manny in the front. In fact, he noticed that Curt didn't talk much at the party. What's up with him?
"Curt, you haven't said anything in like 10 minutes. That's a new record for you" Roland tried to bring it up, chuckling as he said it
Curt leaned over and turned so he could face his friend.
"Well I have a surprise for you back at the recording studio. I didn't want to give off any hints" Curt winked at him, then turned back around
Roland couldn't say anything, oddly. Normally, he'd protest and try to figure out what the 'surprise' was but he couldn't bring himself to. Curt just, winked at him? Curt's winked at him before, why was he so starstruck right now?
Ian leaned in close and whispered very low, only to where Roland could hear him "Dude, you're blushing"
Roland quickly turned to look at Ian and his eyes went a little wider. Oh god it was true. He could feel his cheeks starting to burn and he felt a weird feeling in his stomach. What the hell is happening?
He turned his head again and looked out his window as the car drove in the dark. Why did he blush when Curt winked at him? Was he feeling flustered? He didn't like any of the feelings. He wrinkled his eyebrows at his own thoughts. There was still something different about Curt that he couldn't pin down.
Curt secretly looked at Roland in the rear view mirror, watching him and how he acted. He'd watched him so long. He knew how he acted, his facial expressions for certain things, he just new him inside and out. But how could he not figure out Roland right now?
He watched him all night with Elizabeth, but heard him say they were just friends. What was that supposed to mean? Curt knew that Roland's been watching him lately. Would he finally notice? He hoped so.
