It had been about a year now that the humans finally allowed the monsters a place among them in everyday society. Some monsters still preferred the seclusion of the caverns and caves, and others chose to live out on the countryside in cabins and cottages, usually within villages. Out on a grassy plain, just on the outskirts of an urban town, there was one such village full of monsters of friendly faces. Here lived a family of goat-people, a couple consisting of a fish-monster and a yellow dinosaur creature, two skeleton brothers, and one human.
Now, what human in their right mind would dare associate themselves with such a gathering of characters? The exact human who brought upon this revolution to both the human world and the monster world. This human went by many names. Many loved this human. Some adored this human as if they were their own child. Some adored the human as their very best friend. To one, the human was a beloved sibling. Among the many titles the human was called, she mostly went by Liz.
A small goat-boy scampered through the short hallway of his cottage. He sported a green and yellow striped shirt as well as blue jeans rolled up in such a way so that he didn't trip over the rims when he walked. His feet pitter-pattered softly on the carpet as he finally reached his big sister's room. With a mighty lunge, he propelled himself off the floor and onto her bed. He shook her shoulders and whispered softly into her ear, "Liz! Liz, it's time for breakfast! Mom's got a plate made just for you!"
The girl rubbed her eyes and turned over to meet the adorable face of the one she called brother. "I'm gettin' up, Asriel. Don't you worry." In a moment or two, she'd be up and out of bed, sitting at the dining table and munching down on chocolate-chip pancakes.
Toriel, a tall goat-person with a soft, motherly face patted the shoulder of her human adoptee. Liz finished chugging down a glass of milk and wiped her face. "Yeah, mom?" She asked.
Toriel smiled as she said, "I think I may have a bit of a surprise for you, dear."
"A surprise?" Asked the girl. "What kind of surprise?"
Asriel leaped from his seat and jittered up in down in front of his mother excitedly. "Ooo! Mom! Can I go get it? Please? I wanna give it to her!"
"You may," Toriel chuckled.
In a flash, Asriel darted away into his parents' room and was back as quick as he went. In his arms, he held a cardboard box, resembling that of a flat shoe box. He nearly stumbled over his own feet he was so anxious to show his sister the present in his possession.
"What is it?" Liz grinned from ear to ear and kneeled down in front of her brother to receive the box and open it up on the carpet. Off cape the lid of the box. She tossed aside the thin plastic paper covering over the gift. Revealed underneath was a black clothing item - a black top with long sleeves and no shoulders. In place of shoulder sleeves were wide strips connected to the shirt by silver rings. It was quite a feminine top. Liz gasped and hugged the shirt. It was so quaint and so entirely her style! She embraced Asriel and gave him a tight hug, "thank you so much, Asriel!" She then stood and turned to Toriel before hugging her as well. "Thank you, mom! How did you know to get this? How did you get this?"
Toriel covered over her mouth with a hand as she giggled. "I made it myself, sweetheart. Honestly, it was a shot in the dark. I know you said you loved black clothing and clothes that covered your arms, so I pieced this thing together in hopes that you'd like it. Do you?"
"Yes, yes, yes! I love it!" Liz bounced in her spot. "It's lovely! It's so soft and so pretty!"
Standing from across the dining table and beginning to collect breakfast plates covered in syrup was the father of the family. Asgore said to Liz, "go try it on! Let's see what you look like with your new shirt on."
