It was nearly two in the morning and everyone else was busy dismantling cameras, lights, and other equipment they used for the five-hour commercial shoot. Exhausted, Maine sat on a rickety Monobloc chair, crossed her legs, and stared listlessly out the studio's windows. She heard him pull up beside her and felt his breath on her bare shoulder. "Uwi na tayo?" he whispered. "Mmmhhhmmm," she replied, watching cars move like red ants along the highway. "What's wrong? Nagugutom ka?" Ignoring his question, she let out a long exhale and removed one false eyelash after another. "Meng, I can't read your mind," he began, exasperated. "Sabihin mo naman kung ano problema, oh. Kanina mo pa ako hindi kinakausap." She remained quiet, fiddling with the pins she had removed from the side of her dress. Undettered, he reached out and clasped her hand, bringing it close to his chest. "Meng, please. What's wrong?" After several long seconds, she finally spoke. "Pagod na ako, RJ." "Ako rin, Meng. May mga prod pa tayo for July. Just take it easy lang." "That's not what I meant."
His heart stopped. This wasn't good.
"Tell me, Meng. What's this about?" "I mean pagod na ako," she repeated as she turned to him with a saddened expression, her thumb fiddling her slim diamond ring. "I shouldn't be the only one, you know." RJ nodded, finally understanding what she meant. "It's OK mahal, lapit na July 16. Yun lang naman ang hiningi nila Mr. T, eh. Wait lang tayo ng konti. Then I'll do it." She arched an eyebrow, still not believing him. "Talaga?" He scooted over her and gave her a quick peck on the lips, unmindful of the crew behind them. "Promise," he said, clutching her hand even tighter. Her face beamed and broke into a happy grin. "Hay salamat," she whispered in relief. "Can't wait to see you finally wear your wedding ring in public, hon." "Ako rin, hon. Ako rin."
