2080 A.D, Non-descript Town no. 23 in Republic of Xenoyxia.
"Consider this again, please!" she said, crying profusely as she begged him not to go.
"I have considered this million times. I want to go." he said blankly looking at the family picture.
The family picture adorned the main wall of the house, just above the fireplace. His winters were spent reading near it, curled up in a woollen blanket, and giving an occasional smile towards the picture. His family, broken though, he thought to himself.
"You are leaving me, the same way your family left you." she scowled, not making efforts to hide her tears.
He said nothing. A blank stare.
It had been two days since they where fighting. The home was now a war-zone, between opposing emotions. One who wanted to go, and one who didn't know where he wanted to go.
Two days before, he had received a letter. Habitually, he placed the letter near his family picture before opening it. Habits die hard.
Letter confirmed his selection. His time had come. Bye Planet Earth, he beamed with joy. Unlike, normal humans, who psychologically yearned for comfort and love of their family and loved ones, he had never seen a family. No love, no yearning, no attachment and no purpose on Earth. This program suited him just right. He knew, she would take care of herself.
Republic of Xenoyxia, had announced a month ago about their "Time-Travel" program. This program invited people of Xenoyxia to join the state's time-travel program, a brain-child of the eccentric old man, fondly known in the state as Dr. How-does-this-work. He conceived this idea, of going through space and time, into another dimension, into another world. Xenoyxia, had created a wormhole travelling at the speed of light, and take the volunteers to a new world. A new world of future. Xenoyxia had decided, its people would travel the future, come back and inform the Republic of what the future holds. The Republic would do exactly the what the future holds, and align their present with the future. Or maybe, even change the future, by tweaking their present a little.
Xenoyxia, was known for its scientific experiments. It had conducted researches which changed the behavioural patterns of people. Now, they boosted of a population which slept during days, and worked in nights. They engineered humans in their country, again an experiment spearheaded by Dr.How-does-this-work, to be resistant to temperature. Xenoyxians, could not withstand the harshest summers and the frost-biting winters with ease. Yes, it was a land of super-humans. But a land devoid of emotions. Science had taken over. Their population, required no food. Just, a few tablets of a new chemical, discovered in 2050 called "X-P" popped into their mouths, and they good for the rest of the day. Newer generations, saw food as a mere fantasy of the older and technologically disabled generations.
Time-travel program was about to begin tomorrow. Xenoxyia was in a state of celebration. He didn't know, what to expect. Xenoyxia was ready to have another feather in their cap, people were ready to loose 50 men, who were to be seen somewhere else from now.
She was broken and shattered from within. Death, had a new way of showing its presence. Alive, but still not here, she solaced herself somehow. She was holding his family picture. He felt the family smiling at him through the photo. Maybe, he could meet them in future. His thoughts were interrupted by a pocket-sized monitor screen, attached to his hands, reminding him of the program.
"2 hours to go for the Republic of Xenoyxia's Time-Travel Program" the monitor beamed.
He said his final goodbye.
His last words to her , "Another World. Another Time".
